There's a local gunsmith not too far from my house. I'm thinking of asking him to take me on as an apprentice. Unpaid, two days a week.

What do you think are the odds that he'll say yes?

Depends on who his liability insurance carrier is and the provisions in the policy and how expensive it will be to include some one with the job description you describe. And then there is state regs such as workman's comp and unemployment laws in your state. Lots of variables!!!

Apprentice

We have a local Smith that has done so, he will not let the apprentice work on anyone's gun but he does allow them to bring in there own guns and will guide them.

It is a great idea, I "hang out" with him from time to time and watch him work.

One thing I get out of it is that I know when I need him!!
