I have wanted one of these for years and finally have one! After checking one out in Isreal back in 97 my search has been on. I never saw one locally or at gunshows and the examples I saw on GunsAmerica & other online spots looked well worn and were expensive. About six months ago I ordered an example in 'kit' form from Old Sacramento Armory..........all new parts but incomplete as there were 16 or so missing pins and springs. My gunsmith worked on it in his spare time and as he is very busy (making parts for Brownells & others) it took a while. The kit ran me $180 or so and about $200 worth of 'smithing' has resulted in a new condition Timberwolf that shoots like a dream! MAN does the .357mag perform better out of a rifle. The 'whack!' of the round hitting an old truck rim @ 100yards out at my favorite local shooting pit is WAY louder/harder than the one out of my 6" Dan Wesson using the same ammo. Not a real technical test I know but you can sure tell by the sound difference!
My smith is a real pro and had no worries about the job. The dealer only provided a crappy diagram with the missing parts highlighted. We had to shorten the mag-tube by 1/8" or so but it still easily holds 10 rounds. Everything else went together smoothly. I had to score an extractor off of ebay and we used it as an example to make a better one. (we made a few extra for selling) It took a few shooting trips to work out the bugs byt she now works flawlessly. The aluminum cased/rimmed Blazer stuff is not liked at all by the action.
The pump action sound is just like a pump shotgun, which is also pretty cool. This will be my primary truck gun as it is almost the definition of one. It will never sleep out of the safe though! ...as finding a replacment is way to hard
As there seems to be a problem with fragile stock sets. I will have one milled out of oak or commie $$$ ply. Hell, I might make a few and sell some.
My other rifles will be getting some serious safe time and it looks like I will have to finally set up the reloading equipment that has been boxed up out in the shop for months and start loading up the empty shells that I have been saving for 10 years!
HA!!!
(did I say HA!!)?
