Impact shift after first shot

Hi, everyone. I'm only a couple of years into shooting my Knight Revolution which I bought to extend my deer hunting oportunities and, well I just love guns. Anyhoo, my Revolution with 3 Triple Seven Pellets groups Power Belts nicely but in two groups about 4 inches apart at 100 yards.
I do "foul" the clean barrel to remove oil traces by firing 3 primers in an empty bore. Clean barrel shoots about 1.5 inch groups. All shots thereafter (I spit patch between shots) go about 3.5 inches high and 1.5 inches left in a nice little group of their own.
I can live with this but do I have to? Should I sight in dirty and then leave the bore dirty for the season (18 days)? I can and do leave my rifle in the cold (charged) overnight but I've always fired and cleaned it about every third day.

i think you should always hunt with a fouled bore. fouled by primers rather than the triple 7. many bp hunters including myself never shoot out a of a clean bore. somehow a dirty bore seems to always be more accurate for me.

i used to use bp subsitutes on my inline but have moved up to smokeless on my savage ml II and have been much happier ever since. no cleaning, more power, more accurate. my 2 cents.

I agree with BP. I foul with a primer or two prior to hunting. First I, run a clean patch through the barrel to eliminate any oil (especially if it's been stored for some time and was heavily lubed before putting it away) and then I pop a primer or two, and load it up.

Here is what I do using 777 and TC shock wave bullets:

1. Fire off a couple of primers to clear the bore of oil
2. Load up and shoot one to foul the bore
3. Run a patch with TC bore butter down the bore, pull it up an inch, run it back down and then pull it out.
4. Load up again and keep shooting (does number three every time) if sighting in or leave it loaded for hunting.

The POA does not change and the barrel does not rust.
