Argh. I let impatience get the best of me last night, and I tried to "caveman" my new Heinie Slant Pro Straigt 8's onto my also new Glock 19. Why coudn't I wait two days for a vise and proper tools?

The only perm. damage appears to be two nicks on an upper corner of the rear sight where I galled it. Once I touch it up with something it shouldn't be noticeable. Anyway, there doesn't seem to be any FUNCTIONAL damage, and nothing that will interfere with the sight picture or the tritium inserts. It's purely cosmetic. And I still have to wait for proper tools so I can finish aligning..

Moral: if you're tempted to Bubba something, STOP AND WALK AWAY! Nicks and scratches are the mark of an impatient amateur. (Unless, naturally, you can pass them off as 'tactical' scratches that happening during 'training' or 'action.' "Yeah, I had to drop my 19 and transition to my Glock entrenching tool, those zombies had gotten too close!")

Let the chastisement begin so that I do not forget my lesson!

Impatience

No chastisement from me.

Great reminder for us all. Rates up there with:

-Bring the work to you - don't go to the work.
-Use the proper tools for the task.
-Know limits of one's skill and experience.
-Never be afraid to say I don't know and ask for help.
-Know when to Stop fixing something.
One can teach a person to fix something - difficult to teach when to QUIT fixing something
-Tired, Hungry, Upset, Pressed for time, Frustrated, Distracted...etc., Put whatever you are working on - down.
Unless the Zombies are in/ past the tin cans with rocks inside wire...RUN!

Now after one has done a really nice job, and the firearm gets dinged, scratched , briar-ed up, blood stained, ...etc. It is called Character and Memories

Oh...just a suggestion about this Impatience dealie. When you get the firearm all done up , nice job and all. Stop, Slow down and make sure you have the Correct Mags, and Ammo for that firearm.

At the range - BHP mags and ammo do NOT work, nor are they adaptable to a Caspian 1911 in 45ACP. Not that I would know anything about this of course.
You can forget a Speedloader for a K frame with .38spls fitting as well...*ahem*.

;)

pshhaawwww! nicks, scratches, and gouges build character! but first you need a good story to go along with it.
like, beren, remember the time when you had to replace your sights and the president called you directly to warn you of an attack on your home? and you had to install the new sights in 5 minutes or less or you'd have been toast? and the only tools you had on hand were a cinder block, ballpeen hammer, and some twine?

man it sure wasnt pretty but goll-dangit you got those sights on! and you were able to fight off the attack and live to tell the tale.

:neener:

Chastisement?

Considering how many times I have been there myself?

Guns, cars, electronic equipment I get paid to repair, it all gets to you sooner or later.

Sometimes the "stuff" wins.

Patience really is a virtue, just wish I had more...

cinder block, ballpeen hammer, and some twine?

I won't tell you how close to the truth you are if you swap a Maglite for the hammer. And now I need a new bulb for the Maglite.

... my new Heinie Slant Pro Straigt 8's

All that to describe a rear sight ...?

But on the other hand this word explains the whole thing ...

"Tactical ..."

I shound have known... :neener: :D

"I let impatience get the best of me last night"

Oh Yes been there more often then I want to admitt, always gets you in trouble.
Thats why they say patience is a virtue (I Think thats what they say, I do not have any so would not know)

You should be ashamed of yourself. Just totally irresponsible behavior.

Doesn't begin to compare to the time I force fed a clip of .308 ammo into my 30-06 chambered M1 Garand. Nope, yours is much worse...yes, I did it in front of friends, plenty of witnesses...

Maglite for the hammer. And now I need a new bulb for the Maglite.

Beren,

You have not taken the basic training course Maglight 101 now have you? C'mon, fess up. Some of already can figure out the answer.
You are in luck. Old Fuff borrowed my Soft cover manual with pictures , diagrams and handy tid-bits. I'll have him forward it to you...You will learn:

Ch. 1 Whaddya mean you put batteries in the Maglight?
Ch. 2 Five cell for cheater bar. (Lot of good batteries are...just get in the way...).
Ch. 3 Four cell for whacking chisels to gouge gunstocks...
.
.
.
I believe you need to skip ahead to-

Ch. 11 Using the 3 cell Maglight to whack the AA Maglight to drift sights, install sights or remove the tritium inserts.

Ch 13 Finess work with the Maglight system.
This gets into when to whack a Solitare with a 2 cell AAA Maglight.

Beren- in all due respect. You used wrong the Maglight for the task. :D

Now all I gotta figure out is whom borrowed my copy of Making Puzzles with Leftover Gun Parts

Ch. 11 Using the 3 cell Maglight to whack the AA Maglight to drift sights, install sights or remove the tritium inserts.

Oh wow, I wish I'd read that chapter. It beats using a penny, and then an old brass cleaning tip.

Um. What's the best solvent for removing brass, copper, and zinc stains, anyway?

Man o man I'm so glad I'm not the only one that does this.

With 1911 sights, none the less...

Did you know a steel punch leaves a nice semi-circle impression even when you use an old tshirt as a buffer:(

I'm a loser.
