I have an Inland M1A1 that I was given years ago that I just recently looked at in detail and there are some small marks on the under side of the barrel. They aren't centered on the underside and don't appear to be words but they make me wonder.

The serial number is in the right range, the stock has the correct markings and the wood doesn't compare to a friends Italian reproduction stock.

Does anyone know of an importer bringing in M1A1s prior to the mid 90s? Were there original stocks out there to assembled one?

There were a lot of M1A1 GI stocks on the market at one time.
I paid $15-20 bucks for one at a gun show about 45 years ago.

And a lot more that had been demiled by cutting the wire stock with a cutting torch.

Many were welded back together, refinished, and sold, so skillfully you would never know it unless you knew what to look for.
Others were sold in two pieces for the DIY guys among us.

Lets just say that there are a whole lot more "original" M1A1's in circulation today then ever got loose from the government as surplus!

Thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure it wasn't welded but looking at the mark, I'm almost certain it's a put-together as opposed to an original.

Seeing as it is all original parts, what's it worth?
