On a whim, I picked up a S&W M&P .40 used this week for $420 (looked like it had never been shot, but who knows). I got to shoot it today and was very impressed with the lack of recoil and the near perfect ergonomics. I shot it alongside my heavy CZ SP-01 9mm and if felt like the recoil was almost the same, very amazing for a 27oz. .40 caliber polymer pistol compared to a 41oz. all steel frame 9mm. It ran flawless with a few different types of FMJ and is the perfect duty/range size. I never thought I would buy a S&W but this one is a winner. IF/When Smith and Wesson release the M&P compact model, it will be my new CCW in .40
Now, in terms of polymer pistols, I hate the ergonomics of most Glocks (except for the subcompacts, I own a G29), much to boxy and terrible grip angle, I have owned 2 Steyr pistols and loved everything except their failures to extract, their ejecting cases into my forehead and their much to awkward grip angles.
Anyone know anything about the M&P compacts that S&W is working on? I hope that they are the size of a G27 or even better a Steyr S40 (slightly larger than a G27 but holds 10 rounds of .40). I would buy a compact M&P right now if there were one because the full-size is that good.
My only grip with the whole M&P is the magazine safety, which I think is gay, but I quickly overlooked it for all the other features it offers.
Anyone know if the barrel on my M&P .40 is polygonal? It's hard for me to tell when looking down the barrel.
