I am down to about a 1/2 pound of Alliant 2400 and can't find it anywhere! Has anyone used IMR 4227? If so how does it compare? I am using it for 357 mag loads only. Your input as always is appreciated!

Thanks

IMR4227 works just fine with heavy bullets (158+gr) in the .357 Magnum. One thing you've got to understand is, there will be little kernels of powder residue in your revolver when using this powder. However, the accuracy you will typically find with 4227 loads makes it pretty easy to overlook the residue thing.

I haven't seen 2400 in the 6 months I've been reloading till last weekend at Bass Pro. I've had good luck there for bullseye and unique also. Never seen them anywhere else...

I used it. Works really well. Can't stand the smell lol. Shooting 125gn xtps out of my 627 got me an honest 1375fps chronoed That was with a full case. Some loads are into the compressed range. Just not my thing.

I haven't used 2400, but have nothing but good to say about 4227. Like Don said, it's a little dirty but very accurate. I shoot 158 LSWC and use a compressed charge, which is where it seems to shoot best. Of course tart low and work up. I get a cleaner burn with magnum primers in 357, but use standard primers in 38 spl.

I use 14 grains of it between a 158 grain lswc and a cci spm primer and mixed brass. Very accurate, burns cleanish for 4227.
I MIGHT use it in my 6" 686+ for deer this year.

Yes IMR 4227 will work, but where I am H110 and WW296 (same powder) are available which is what I use.

I'm currently testing 4227 with 158 LSWC 18 Kieth style Missouri. Looks like my 6" Blkhk likes 15.0 gr best so far. Tried 12.0 to 17.0. I too cannot find my favorite 2400.
Good reloading Catpop
