My local dealer is out of pretty much everything.

I am reloading 280 Remington using a 140 grain jacketed bullet. I have been using 43.5 Grains of H Varget but am almost out of it. I have 5# of IMR4895 that I use for other calibers. IMR4895 is not listed in my book. H4895 is listed.

Are IMR4895 and H4895 the same?

Has anyone worked up a load for 280 Remington with a 140 grain jacket bullet using IMR4885?

All help is greatly appreciated.

This should help.

H4895 and IMR are not the same. They have a similar burn rate but load data are not interchangeable

I don't have any load data for the 280 using that powder but usually loads for h4895 are only 1 grain different than IMR.

I know people have used IMR4895 for 280 but this also comes with all the caveats of getting unpublished data from the web

They are different. Buy a Lyman manual and you will find proven data for both. I am by internet load data from an individual like I am someone else's reloads. Either might be just fine but I prefer not to take a chance.

From Loaddata.com I found the following:
All recipes recommend working up a load. All recipes recommend bullet seating depth 3.300 to 3.330
Then: Hand Loader Aug 2008 #254 140 Sierra SP 43.5 @ 2805 fps from 21 inch barrel using WLR primer.
Then Remington data: 26 inch barrel 140 Nosler Accubond, 40 to 44 @3.300 2580 to 2840 fps using Fed 210 primer
Then Sierra manual: 21 inch barrel; Sierra SBT or SPT, 41.6 to 45.2, 2622 to 2806 fps, Trim to 2.530 using WLR primer
