Maryland, as I understand it, has a list of approved guns, and all those *not* on the list are presumed bad.

If one moved to Maryland, having already legally bought one of these off-list guns in another state, is it legal to maintain possession and say nothing? Or is there an obligation to self-report this act of iniquity?

The other day, I wondered whether my brother's Cz-100 (popular company, unpopular gun) was legal for sale in MD, and whether there was a difference between "legal for sale" and "legal to possess."

Turns out, checking the MD State Police site (http://www.mdsp.org/), it's legal for sale anyhow -- but what if it hadn't been? Anyone on here moved to Maryland *after* buying guns not allowed there?

My understanding of the "law" was that unless it was registered there back in X date that you could not have it.

I left several items out of their maggot infested state while I was there due to this. They trust a career military officer for nothing it seems.

I wouldn't risk the moronic attacks from them if you ever make a wake and would keep your legal (non-maggot legal) items out of the maggot state.

Best thing to do really is stay out of md entirely! There is nothing there worth your 2nd Am. Rights.

Thanks for the concerns, but don't worry -- I lived there long enough already ;)

(And Ohen Cepel, I agree with you -- hard to believe that they can trust you with guns for the defense of the country, but not allow you to carry them responsibly.)

It's a nice state to visit, which I like because both my siblings live there at the moment. Myself, I'm heavily hoping to move back to Washington State :) http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=340469

The only ones you cant bring are "assault pistols", there's a specific list of them.

What Kharn said - the list of "assault pistols" (UZI, TEC-9, MAC-10, etc) specifies what "types" of guns are illegal to have in the state.

All the others (EBRs, "regular handguns", etc.) are fine to bring in. Unless they are on the handgun roster (similar to CA's), then dealers can't sell them retail. You can bring in regular-capacity (over 20-round) magazines, too. You just can't sell them or buy more while physically within the state of MD. A quick trip to VA/PA/DE/WV and you can get all more you want.

The only type of weapon banned in Maryland are so-called "assault-pistols" as mentioned by K-Romulus. Regular pistols are still fine. You can get still get AK's, AR-15's, FAL's, and the like but are regulated by Maryland State Police (see list). There are still a lot of cool long guns out there NOT on the list and therefore treated as regular semi-auto guns that you do not have to go through a waiting list for (Vz-58, FN P-90, FN FS2000, SIG-556, Colt H-bar AR-15, Robinson XCR just to name a few). Even then I consider this too much gun control and cannot wait to leave especially with all the high taxes :cuss: .

MD Sucks

I believe it's OK to own the weapon if you already purchased it, the registration is for new sales only. And the "Assault Weapons" listed aren't "Banned" just Regulated. Best thing to do is contact MSP at 410-653-4500

I live in MD. My understanding is you can own it, (we dont have any registration here, so no way to register anything anyway), but you cant sell or transfer it with in MD.
Hell class 3 is OK here its not that bad.
There is a list of approved handguns, anything must be on that list to be sold within the state.

Actually, Maryland is known as the "Old Line State" Named by Geo. Washington to a particular unit of his Army who stacked the opponets by the dozens while holding a line of battle just long enough to allow others in great danger to get to a place of safety. That particular unit in the military was the only one so honored with a named designation during the Rev. War.

Now I call that state "The Shalt Not" state for alot of reasons related to inability to exercise gun ownership the way it's intended to be done. Arkansas has been most generous except for a few burrs in the saddle so far.

Unfortunately go down into Baltimore or DC at night, you will be swept by many illegal guns in the hands of criminals. Im glad to be rid of that living in fear.
