if you had these two S&W revolvers, which would you sell for emergency funds?

S&W 25-5 in .45 Colt (c) 1991 manufacture. This is the 1955 Model Heavy Target Barrel Revolver with 6" barrel, wide target trigger and hammer, red front post, white outline rear sight. No box, manual, or accessories.

S&W 17-6 in .22LR early 90s manufacture (per Radagast, the SN appears to be out of sequence so it's hard to nail down a date); 6" barrel, no lug. Recessed chambers but barrel is not pinned. Patridge front sight. Wide target trigger and hammer.

Edit: these are the two highest-value guns I have. I could cull some others to make up the value of one of these, e.g. a Rock Island 1911 plus a Browning Buckmark. So, I guess that should have been Option #3.

If i have any other gun that can fill a self defense role like a shotgun or rifle then I sell the .45 Colt, if not then sell the .22

I would sell the browning buck mark. You could find another any time.
KEEP the S&W's They would be hard and costly to replace.

I'd hate to give up either, but if I had to I'd keep the model 17. In .22 LR you can still afford to shoot it, but shooting the .45 would be expensive unless you handloaded.

Anyway I wish you some better luck.

You can do more with the Model 25, so, if I could only keep one of the two, I'd keep the Model 25.

FWIW, I do reload for the .45 Colt.

I'm not at the point of having to sell yet...more of a "just in case" situation.

Or, if you are like the rest of us, if you really look around your house you can probably find thousands of dollars of needless crap laying around. Just watch an episode of Hoarders sometime ... the next morning you'll have a yardsale and make a grand or three ... or five.

I'd sell the .45 if I had the 1911 for SD. The .22 would be less costly to run and I'm guessing the .45 may fetch a bit more money.

Well I do have both in my safe. There are other guns that would go first. But if it came down those two, I would keep the .45.

Bad Bubba won't know the difference between being shot with 45 colt or 45 acp
(and none of the four is of optimal CCW size)
hard times, scarce dollars for anything, including ammo

of the four mentioned, the 17 would go next, re: cash value
because Buckmarks shoot cheap rimfire real well, too
then the Buckmark

I love my S&W 25s. I also love 1911s and .22s. For me keeping the 1911 and the 617 gives me a good semi for self defense and a great revolver for all other reasons.

17s are not available any more, but 617s are, and that's close enough. 22 revolvers clog too easily, IMO.

The Buck Mark handily replaces the 17. A 1911 in the collection is necessary, IMO.

25s are very cool, and not easily filled by anything else you've got. Won't be easily replaced later, IMO.

Now I'm really glad I voted to sell the M17.

After voting, I was thinking I voted for the wrong one due to ammo costs.
Still more expensive for 45 Colt ammo, but it helps a bunch not paying factory ammo costs.

The more guns I get....... the more they become an integral part of my soul. I guess you really have to weigh the emergency.

What would I sell my soul for? Do I want to spend eternity in hell? What is more important, guns or food? If I lose the world, but retain my guns what have I gained? Would I sell a toe; a leg; an eye; my wife?

Much contemplation is needed before the depletion of firearms takes place. You can fill a bucket with tears, but you cannot fill a bucket with guns that you have sold to someone else (please ponder this proverb at length). It is likely those people who "would" own your firearms would not allow you to throw them into a bucket, but if they were yours the possibilities are endless.

The bottom line is I really believe you should do a search of your SELF, before you ask such questions. The Oracle at Delphi says "know thyself". Rush Limbaugh talks about his "glorious naked body", and I say "do not gouge out your own eye, but quit sinning and you won't be compelled to."

Pretty simple really..... quit disgracing your soul..... don't talk of such terrible things, and the you don't have to worry about them. Go, and sell no more firearms my child. Store up for yourself guns in heaven. Reload, and be happy. Let not your collection be troubled. Amen
