If you have a CHL in Texas how many databases are you on?

The only thing I have found out for sure, so far is the DPS database

When I did a ride along with APD as part of public education program several years ago we put my info into the VDT and my CHL did not appear. Perhaps they have the system up to date now.

I was just pondering who knows what.
Seems if you go to Florida from Texas and get pulled over and show them your DL and CHL they must have a way to check the Texas CHL.

Many states have a "verification" phone number on the licenses so that a LEO from another state can call and check that the license or permit is legitimate.

Both my PA and UT permits do.

But there is no database of such things that a state or federal LEO can search to see such information.

I live in TX, but I actually obtained the FL permit instead. At least FL gives me credit for years of professional training I've had using firearms.

Send a copy of military ID for FL vs. 100 fee and a weekend for a course I don't need for TX...

I thought when they ran your plates through the computer it showed the owner and also if they have a CHL

I don't know about city and county in Texas, but when DPS runs the vehicle's license number, it comes back with the owner's name and address, any outstanding warrants, and whether or not there is a CHL. For city and county, it likely depends on their budget. If there's a video camera, odds are they're tied in for complete info. Could be that some really rural counties might not be, but like I say, I don't know.

Completely dependent on which state, and doesn't work outside your home state.

Yup! But the OP asked...

And I was trying to answer that extension of his question.

I have a friend and co-worker who recently did the same thing.

I asked him...so, you saved a few bucks and a couple of hours worth of training. But do you know TX law?

Deer...in...headlights...look.

Guess he never thought about that part.

Ah! Thought you were responding to the post immediately above.

He is probably knows enough of the law well enough to stay out of trouble. He can get the information online, if he so desires, but it isn't like the brief lectures over Texas law are really all the that informative. The test over the law is a joke - not really testing any sort of serious understanding of the law). Much of the legal information is lethal force law which generally carries the same major points from state to state.

There is no specific requirement that I'm aware of that TX residents MUST have a TX CHL. In any case, I'm moving from one state to another every 12-18 months for either moves between bases or deployments. For many of these residency requirements, military usually gets some slack because of the transient nature of what we do.

My actual state of residency for tax purposes is PA, even though I live in TX, and I carry an AZ license, but a FL CCW permit.

Confused yet?

When I mentioned Florida it could have been any other State that a TX CHL is ok.

Yup they do pull up insurance with your info too!

Before reciprocity was so wide spread, Torian, I had a buddy with 9 licenses, but resided in Texas. Texas had reciprocity with just a few states, but FL added more, ...and so on with each license except maybe one or two that did have non-resident licenses, but did not share reciprocity with anyone. No telling how many database lists he was on, LOL.
