will those "trickle down" to his students?

I've heard some rumblings that the instructor from whom I took my CHL class is in some sort of difficulty. I do not know what it is - whether it is CHL related or some other issue - but I was told he is no longer conducting CHL classes due to "some problems." When I pursued what those problems were, I was told that his website is down and all future classes have been cancelled.

To be clear: I am not making any accusations as I do not know any story.

I merely want to know if my CHL can be slowed if he has some kind of problem with Texas DPS.

Thanks,
Q

From the DPS website FAQ, not sure what actual General Code section this is from, but.....

Q: What if I take a class from an instructor whose certificate was revoked. Is my proficiency certificate still good?
A: If you took the class before the instructor's certificate was revoked, then your proficiency certificate should still be valid.

Well, since they say "should be" there still may be some delay I guess. Reads to me like they could review everything he's done if they wanted to, depending on how bad he messed up.

There are a number of ways a instructor could have.. made a boo boo. My instructor did a good job but he was essentially buried in paperwork and targets, all of which must be retained for a very long time.

We had an instructor with problems and everyone that took his course was decertified by our state. In his case, he sold the certificates of completion for the class for $50 and did not require students actually attend a course.

Well of course the students were decertified because the problem the instructor had was in the conduct of the course, not in some event outside of, or after the course.

I am a CPL instructor in MI and know that if I am in good standing and follow the state requirements for training when the class is taken... the student is "good to go".

If I do not follow the state required training procedures (for example issue a certificate to a person who doesn't complete the class) I am liable for a 4 year felony and $2,500 in fines.... plus loss of training licence, loss of CPL, and no future gun ownership. THERE ISN'T A HUMAN ON EARTH THAT I WOULD RISK THAT FOR!!!!!

Having said that... there are trainers in my state that "cut corners" in the classes (Are they crooks? maybe but probably not-- Are they stupid? Yep) and their students are at risk having their CPLs pulled if the state determines that the training did not meet the requirements of the law.

So people need to understand that the instructors are not all equal.... check them out and pick a good one... like you would do with a doctor, lawyer, or house painter. Just because their class is less expensive or takes less hours... that doesn't mean they are following all the rules or that the instructor is operating within the law.:cuss:

Rant off!
