I'm in the middle of the first season of "24", what a great show.

I was thinking last night though, if that's a P229 that Kiefer Sutherland is using I think there's a problem. It looks like a regular Sig in every shot I see of it, but he has several times screwed a silencer on the end of it. Even in the close up shots it's obvious that there isn't anything even remotely resembling a threaded barrel on it.

Is this Hollywood taking some more "artistic license" again or is there such a thing as internally threaded barrels like the kind on my Remington 1187 shotgun?

No, you are correct. They have had some continuity problems this season I think.

Like Tuesday night's episode for example. The camera clearly showed the bad guys moving around getting into position. Yet when Jack made his escape, they were exactly where the downloaded satellite imaging had placed them, even though it was stated the info was over 10 minutes old.

Did anyone else notice that the "new guy" 's AR15 had what appeared to be a .22 caliber stick mag in it? :D

And what kind of idiot has among his choices of arms in a pull-out drawer an H&K G36, but grabs a couple of pistols instead then runs off to a firefight?

I was assuming it was a 9mm AR15.

De-cocking the SIG

I'm probably late commenting on this, but from two episodes ago, where Jack confronted the Middle Eastern agent by jamming his SIG into the agent's face...after talking with him, Jack keeps his SIG pointed right in the guy's face while decocking the pistol with thumb on the the hammer, finger on the trigger...yikes, what about that handy decocking lever?! (And maybe a re-direction of that muzzle in the process hahaha...)

Oh, well...still a pretty gripping darn show, one I can't seem to get enough of.

That's what I thought as well. I even mentioned to my wife that often movies/TV will use 9mm guns in place of the 'correct caliber' due to 9mm blanks being more reliable.

What about Jack's mini subgun too?

Remember when he first got to the warehouse. He stuck a small sub gun (Mini UZI or M11) inside his jacket along with a couple of 30rd mags. But when the firefight broke out, he was holding them off with his Sig.

Why not go full auto on them:confused:

OMG I work at a Fox station and love to pick on the show so don't get me started.
I will only point out one thing (for now)
HOW MANY mags does Jack carry I see him reload every so often but when his shirt or jacket if off never doesn't have 12 mags around his belt:evil: but just keeps reloading and shooting, wish I could do that during a couple of IPSC matches:D

Tac,

Maybe you should get a job as a technical advisor. Lord knows anyone of us could do a more consistent job than the people working on that show

However, its still one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. Hopefully, we have enough people like Jack Bauer on our side in real life.

Ian 11,
Funny you should say that I already get practice as the News crew runs gun (so called) facts, info and picture checks of things they are going to put into the news. That alone can be a full time job, you all know how many firearm related points the news gets wrong. You should hear some of the things they ask.
Heres just a couple, .380acp shotgun used by police, bolt action automatic high powered rifle and let me tell you one more gun "just goes off" and I will:banghead:

But I could never be a tech on 24 I would just follow the girl that can't buy the right size shirt around all day on set:D

I noticed that too. And that was after he gave the girl a handgun. When he gave her the handgun, I assumed he was going to pull out the Uzi...

Goodness knows I'm not an expert on all the variants of AR's... BUT the AR he was using had a CURVED mag in it, while every 9mm AR I've ever seen had a straight stick mag.

I guess someone might make a 9mm AR that uses an HK style mag, but it looked (to me) exactly like the 30 round "Cenier" conversion mags...

.22 Conversion mag:

Colt 9mm AR mag:

Onslaught: I think you're right. I think the mag was curved. Why would they be using a .22lr for the show? Would .22lr blanks cycle the action? They'd need a blank adapter on the front for that to work, wouldn't they?

Geez, what standard are you guys using?

It's a darn good show, the gun handling stuff is better than most, if not perfect. What standard are you using?

I have NEVER seen a movie or TV show that treated any technical issue with 100% accuracy (well, maybe 2001). The firearms stuff bothering you? Take pity on the pilots, computer experts, intel guys, physicists, etc. that have to watch their areas of expertise crapped on every time they turn on the TV.

Movies and TV have been treating firearms and military portrayals better than ever in recent years. Especially with "24", we have less to complain about than ever.

Excuse me, the A-Team is on.

Handy,

Take pity on the pilots, computer experts, intel guys, physicists, etc. that have to watch their areas of expertise crapped on every time they turn on the TV.

Just think how many people that post to this forum are "pilots, computer experts, intel guys, physicists, etc." and are only rambling on about the firearms to keep it on-topic. ;)

A couple points about this week's episode of 24:

-The SMG the foreign intelligence agent (Yusef) was using was, I believe, a vanilla MP5 with the forearm replaced by weaver rails. There was also a vertical foregrip IIRC. Which would explain the curved 9mm mags. (Though why he would take that particular weapon out of the weapons cache in the truck, leaving the G36K, I'll never understand :) )

-Jack was using an Ingram of some sort, and the pistol he gave to Kate was another one he picked up while gearing up last week (not the two-tone SIG that's his signature weapon). I'm pretty sure Jack and "the other guy" were both using their SMGs ("the other guys'" were micro Uzis if I'm not mistaken) when they broke out of the warehouse.

-I'm pretty sure Jack's glove compartment is stuffed full of pistol magazines, as are his pockets :)

Also, hello. :D

Tamara,

I was thinking of them. As I posted, firearms inconsistancies are at an all time low in the entertainment industry, and on 24. With so much to make everyone cringe, this stuff seems REALLY minor.

I didn't see any AR15s in the last episode. But I did see the G36 and MP5 Rawlings mentioned.

Wouldn't it be funny if you guys mistook an MP5 for an AR?

Geez... I re-read the first few posts, and I didn't see anybody "crapping" on 24... It reads to me like we were all enjoying a light hearted conversation about one of our favorite TV shows, while at the same time, trying to keep the topic "pistol related".

My wife and I watch 24 religiously, as we did last season. I think it's the best TV show I've seen in a VERY long time. But when I do notice things that may be a bit off, I can't exactly look at Mrs. "I've got one gun already... why do I need another one?" and talk about the non-threaded Sig barrel with silencer, or the Curved mag in the "AR"... Heck, the most she's said about firearms regarding 24 is "Jack's pistol is very pretty, as far as pistols go, what kind is it?".

Wouldn't it be funny if you guys mistook an MP5 for an AR?
I must say, anything's possible, but what I SAW was an AR. A very modified AR with an ACE-like stock, optic on the carry handle (I think), small curved mag in the large magwell, flash supressor, etc... Now, whether that guy actually HAD an AR, or if I just have 9mm AR's on the brain this month, I can't say. But I own an AR, and the MP5 was the first weapon I started "noticing" in movies when I first caught the bug in my mid-teens... so I would be QUITE embarrassed if that were the case. But like I said... anything's possible.

and the pistol he gave to Kate was another one he picked up while gearing up last week
Again, no expert, but the pistol he handed Kate LOOKED LIKE either a Charles Daly or a Star (MegaStar?)... I say this because I believe it had a polymer frame with the slide rails on the outside of the slide... Opposite of most pistols I'm familiar with...

I'll have to go back and slow mo through it again, I did it that night because I thought it was weird too.

I think it was an MP5 with Knights Armament RAS with a verticle front pistol grip on bottom, optics on top, and the side panels on the side. Made it look "M4" like, but it was really a MP5.

Kinda like this picture, but with a curved 30 round mag:

Onslaught,

Re-read what you quoted. I didn't say anyone was "crapping" on 24, I said that many professions should be unhappy with movies and television for the treatment of their areas.

I only posted because this seemed a little hypercritical. There are a ton of TV shows and movies that are terrible in this regard. I'm just saying that I, IMHO, don't think 24 is one of them.

That is a friendly opinion.

That's definitely possible... From the way he was holding it, I never really got a full view of the entire SMG, just mostly from the forend up, and the mag, and a little of the stock.

But wait... we gotta redirect our discussion back to "semi-auto pistols" before Tamara shuts us down for going off topic. :uhoh: So make sure while you're "slo-mo"ing, to check out Kate's pistol to see what it was... And what was she thinking? Shooting a guy that had an MP5, and then leaving it laying on the ground as she walks off in shock with... the unknown pistol? "I know how to shoot a pistol Jack" (at inanimate paper objects).

I think it is cool that we are seeing more "civvie" hand gun use on TV:

The Agency had a military wife shooting an attacker with her CCW J-frame a few weeks ago.

It is cool that on 24, Kate tells him she can shoot a gun. Sure her dad is CIA, but did she even know that before?

Also - I thought it was cool that the guy who had the recordings had basically a mil-spec 1911 as his handgun. That seemed a lot more appropriate for a grizzled vet like him than a Glock or even a Sig...

Also - why did kim take a (well aimed) pot shot at the creep in the El-Camino, but would not shoot the crazy guy in the squishy-mart?

I imagine that was because she either felt sorry for him (understanding why he was so desperate to get out of the city), or she froze up because shooting a man is much different from shooting off a mirror. Or both.

Hey, at that point in the show, she had just come off doing something *right* (shooting the guy's car) and she hadn't made a major screwup in at least 45 minutes. She was due. :)

Having been a huge "The Sheild" fan since the pilot episode, all other tv dramas seem cheesy to me...I cant get into 24.

The Sheild, on the other hand, is the finest tv drama ever made, IMHO.:D
