Is anyone here familiar with Independence Firearms out of Brenham, Texas? They were a walk-in store for a while, but next thing I know buyer could only pick up items paid for at gun shows or online auctions. Does anyone here know what happened to cause this?

YES

Their prices are awesome. Only done business at their location though... They do not have a retail store anymore. But you can go there to pick up your guns if you want... Both of the guns purchased there were VERY cheap , something like 200 under normal retail on both of them.

I really enjoyed going there to pickup guns. Go in to buy one, look around and end up buying 2-3 more. First gun I purchased there was a sig sauer custom shop 226. Walked out with the Sig CS 226, a Sig 238, and a rem nitro 887. Next visit was to purchase a Christensen carbon fiber 338 that was spotted on the first visit. Walked out with the Christensen and a core15 in muddy girl furniture. Really enjoyed talking with Rock while shopping. The way he acted, one would have thought he was paid by commission. Guess that is what my wife and myself miss the most, dealing with a salesperson that really likes their job. With the store closed my wife refuses to purchase anything online from them, she claims it's not economical.

I've bought several times from them at gun shows and went to the store to pick up a suppressor I'd ordered at a gun show after the Sandy Hook madness made gun shows too much trouble.

The store had impressive stock and selection, but I would not be surprised if they'd be closed down by a visit from a Fire Marshall -- barely room to turn around in any of the aisles and the layout was close to being a maze.

I hope they keep coming to our gun shows, they have good selection and prices.
