Having visited ranges in other states, I have seen some indoor ranges that allow rifle fire. I have also seen pictures on Flickr of indoor ranges that allow rifle fire. I haven't seen a range in Northern Illinois that allows this. Are there any that you know of? Are ranges that disallow rifle fire using weaker backstops or is there just more backstop wear associated with rifle fire no matter how it is constructed?

P.S. Looking to shoot .223, nothing obscene.

Thanks!

Gun World has an indoor 25 yd rifle range. It's in the NW suburbs (I think on Irving Park west of the airport.)

Good question.....

I am doing an internship in the Riverwoods area. I am having a hard time finding ANY place to shoot centerfire rifles and shotguns up here.

I figure that you probably want to shoot further than 25 yards, which is about the normal (if not on the long end) of indoor ranges.

Anyway, I'm curious - if you find one, please post it.

Yes, Gun World on Irving Park near York road has a 25 yard rifle range. I believe they are closing or moving shortly due to O'Hare airport expansion.

The range at JR Shooting Sports in Aurora is very nice. Clean too.

Also, Maxon in Des Plaines.

+1 for JR's A-town, 519 North Oakhurst Drive. You can shoot your rifle there, they have to check your ammo tho. Only did it twice. Once to test new AR and to test dad's m1a loaded.

I've been to JRs before but didn't know they allowed rifles. I just have two questions.

1. Being that there's an AWB in Aurora, would it be okay to bring in an AK type rifle if my residency is in Naperville?

2. Do they allow wolf ammo?

Thanks.

I guess I will call them tomorrow and try to clear some of these question up. If I learn anything I will post it back here.
