Stevens 200: $370 in my area via Davidsons after tax and fees. Does not include scope.

See the earlier thread about the Stevens 200 vs. Marlin XL-7.

I'd think about the Savage Edge. They are ugly as sin, but I bet they can shoot just like Savages are known for. I think they can be had for less than $350 as part of a combo with a crappy scope.

Hi Peter, I've read some reviews of it, and not at all interested in buying a .223 now, but I'm sure Angelsfanbp will appreciate the link you provided. :neener:

Hi Angelsfan,

You should be able to find a Savage in .223, either used or new, at that price level. You can't go wrong with them... whatever you pick, have fun - I just started shooting .223 last year and it's a great caliber for a bolt gun. I live in an area where a lot of people have tight budgets, so I see a lot of Savages at the range - everyone who has one, that I've talked to, loves them, and I've seen how accurate they are; they definitely live up to the hype that you read online in terms of accuracy.

The Marlin XS-7 isn't available in .223Rem., otherwise that would be the ticket (.243Win. is, but more costly to shoot); so the Stevens would be my choice with a tight budget.

:)

I've seen several different calibers of Handi-Rifles being used at hunter sight-in days on our range, and the rifles are capable of shooting right up to the sights and shooters using them. Especially for their price, I'm impressed.
