Inexpensive safety glasses?

I think it was one of the NRA rags that did an article on glasses recently. The Z87 thing is the way to go. There may even be a Z87+ or something like that. Turns out that the best for safety was also the least expensive, at about $7. Wish I could find that article...

I've never really understood the point behind shooting glasses. The whole idea confuses the hell out of me. Shooting a gun isn't exactly like running a wood chipper so what's the specs for then?

Serious. Insight would be helpful.

A lot of firearms (I have a rimfire that seem to have a habit of it) can blow powder back into your face.

Hot ejected brass to the eyeball tends to make for the beginning of a bad day as well.

Finally there ricochet. The odds of a round coming back and putting your eye out are astronomical, but of course the safe assumption is that the one person out of a million will be YOU.

I'm buying them because the indoor range I want to try out requires them. I have a range in my backyard (I live on 10 acres out in the country) and never use them here, although I probably will now that I have them.

Glasses were never required on military ranges or the sheriff's department range when I was a deputy - of course, that was 10 years ago.
