I am interested in the AK style of rifles. If finances permit, I would like to get one in a few months. Are there different brand names of AK's? I am looking for one that has a solid build, and is reliable. I hear that reliabilty is the norm for AK's. Not trying to start a brand war or anything, just some info on what to look for in a good AK rifle. Also, what is the going price for them?

Thanks in advance.

Saigas are good rifles. some of the best ones out there, fairly cheap, and available in "sporter" configurations if you want to use it for hunting or if you have commie state laws. made in russia but Izmash (Izhevsk)

I would really recommend that you hit the search engine. You will have days worth of reading.

Search under the following terms: (search engine won't let you do 2 letter searches)

AK47
Saiga
Tromix
Vepr
Wasr
SAR
Arsenal
Krebs
etc.

Personally, I like the Russian guns. Saigas and Veprs. They are the least traditional, but the best performing.

I own a Bulgarian AK made by Armory USA in Houston - www.globaltrades.com
They are worth checking out. High quality, moderate cost. I also own a Saiga, made in Russia, also good build quality (though I think the Armory USA is better made) but the Saiga is cheap and comes in a different (sporter) configuration. Good luck in your search, it's a formidable task as ther are many variations and countries of origin for the AK platform.
