Info on Camillus Fisk Bowie

Are you talking about the 7" or 11" versions? Camillus pulled out the stops on these. They're very nice blades with good fit and finish. The design and performance are excellent. IMHO - these are the best production Bowies bar none. You should be able to pick up the 7" version for under $200 and the 11" for under $250. Take a look at EBay and some of the Web sellers.

I'm not familiar with the 7 inch but the 11 inch OVB Camillus is a very nice handling Bowie.
I'm not familiar with the steel used, something proprietary to them and not seen around much, can't comment on how it would perform.
The other Bowie which I do have and carry often is the Cold Steel Laredo with 10 1/2" blade of carbon V steel which is a very good steel. It holds it's edge nicely and is not prone to chipping, or breaking the tips off if used roughly [ see their video on the trailmaster as to how tough the steel is ].
You might want to look at one of these. It's not as light in the hand as the OVB but it isn't heavy either. In the "Southern Comfort" IWB from www.rivercitysheaths.com it disappears and can be accessed as fast an as IWB gun from under a sweatshirt or jacket.

Well Camillus make the Larado for Cold Steel so the steel is the same.

I didn't know 0170-6c [ the OVB steel ] was the same as Cold Steels Carbon V.
Carbon V has always been considered closest to a 52100 bearing steel. Is 0170-6c a bearing steel?
Can you confirm that with a source of information?

Me thinks it's kind of an open secret that Camillius is the OEM for the carbon blades marketed by Cold Steel. No one from Camillius or Cold Steel will officially fess up but... Jog over to Bladeforums and you can find discussions on Carbon V.

The OVBs are "custom" quality pieces made by Camillus.
While Camillus is the manufacturer for many other company's knives the materials are not always the same for each. I don't think that just because you and your sister had the same parents that the two of you are exactly the same. This holds for the Fisks and the Laredo, or any knife made by Camillus for their line and others'.
Who knows for sure what Carbon V steel is anyway? Some have said that it has been at different times: O-1, 1095 or 0170-6/50100-B. All of these are good steels. When properly heat treated and ground they make good blades. The problem here is that if Cold Steel decides tomorrow that they need to cut costs on their none stainless steel knives, they could start using any quality steel and still call it Carbon V.
