Guys my buddy just bought a S&W 4006. And He let me try it out first. I was really impressed with this weapon it hit where I pointed it and felt really good in my hands. I fired 2 or 3 mags through it without a malfunction. I figured I would get at least 1 ftf or stovepipe but nothing. He let me take the gun home to play with some more " wich I did gladly ". He only paid 200.00 for the gun. What I want to know is how reliable are these guns over the long haul and what are they worth. " I think I may try to work a trade with him Depending on the info I get here.I have a bulgarian makarov he drools on every time he shoots it.:D

You have mighty low expectations. ;) I've never had a S&W "third-gen" pistol malfunction, ever.

FWIW, this was the first handgun to be chambered for the .40, and was from its inception - and still is - the California Highway Patrol's issue sidearm.

I've got a 4006, and it's probably one of my favorite guns. It's accurate, shoots well, and easy to clean. 12 rounds of .40 cal ought to take care of most situations... but a 2nd clip will get you another 11, and it's a proven model under combat conditions. Lots of police departments and highway patrols have used them.

I actually had two of them, and traded one off for a Ruger security six because I wanted another .357 so I didn't have to shoot my model 19 which is pristine... but I still have second thoughts about it. Both of them were exceptional weapons, and very easy on the shooter... no stovepipes, no ftf's, and good on 2nd shots.

A pristine Makarov goes for about $400 around here, and the 4006's are about $350... but the mak is an easy "hideaway" gun, but still limited in firepower comparatively. The guy with the 4006 will still be shooting when you're out with your mak.

Right now, I'm lusting after an XDm because of the high capacity in .40 cal, but that 4006 is a proven quantity, and I'm really tickled with mine... extremely good weapon.
