"What about a S&W 4006" ???

My local gun shop has a real nice S&W 4006 for sale with a couple of pre-ban mags.

I may be wrong but I seem to recall that there might have been a problem or a recall of the early version of the 4006.

Based on the gun's model number -- 4006 -- with NO hyphens -- I would think this is a very early model of the gun.

The serial number is TFF 5xxx.

Any opinions would be welcome?

I don't recall any problems. IIRC, the CHP still uses theirs.

What's the difference between the 2 models of the 4006?

In the late 1990's, S&W began to introduce their new "tactical" line of auto pistols. Besides some obvious cosmetic difference and an equipment rail, the Tactical line contains a barrel with a fixed barrel bushing and it is housed in a frame and slide that feature larger, reconfigured rails for greater stability and durability. The full length rails on the frames and slides feature tighter tolerances for increased accuracy. Accuracy is also enhanced by a tighter lock up and longer unlocking delay. The delayed-unlock firing system produces less "felt" recoil and enables a shooter to return to the target quicker. Consequentially, a 4006TSW will have less "kick" than the regular 4006. Also, despite the same weight and size, the 4006TSW feels "beefier" -- more solid.
