USFA's main page has some short blurb about a supposed new .41 Short Mag. Anyone heard any rumors about this? Is it basically just the .41 Special, or is it different somehow?

I suppose it's not doing any harm, but doesn't seem totally necessary either. I'm curious as to what their motivation was. If it is the .41 Spl, why rename it? If it's not, why invent a cartridge even more obscure than the .41 Spl?

Plus I'm a bit miffed the USFA is wasting time on other projects rather than finishing their repro of the Colt Woodsman and the Maxim Silencer they announced two years ago.

Guess they wanted their own caliber. :) Guns are chambered in 44 mag, I see no reason to have a short mag 41 (41 special) as the frame would be the same as the 41 mag and 44 mag.

Not necessarily; not every .38Spl is on as big a frame as a .357 Mag, right?

For example, someone (Bowen? Reeder?) rebored and rebarelled a .32H&R Single Six for five rounds of .41 Spl, which would be pretty unsafe for a .41 Mag.

I was looking at the picture, and the frame size looks the same. You are correct that a 41 special could be made using a smaller frame and still be quite shootable and effective.

Quite frankly, I'm shocked that they're offering them in those finishes! If there ever was a firearm that should LOOK a certain way, it's a single-action revolver. Those just look wrong.

But, then I almost threw up a few months back when I found a Win 94 that had been Dura-Coated GREEN...and had a $400 price tag.

Function is function. But a gun is art, too.

Jeez!
O.D. Green & Desert Tan painted SAA's?

At least they didn't put Tactical Light Rails on them!

Yet!
