I'd appreciate any info/opinions/experiences anyone here has concerning Mauser's HSc (not the "Super" version"). Especially, how it compares to Walther's PPK & PPK/S.

First, how does it compare in size. Is it about the same size as the PPK, PPK/S, or PP? How does the Mauser compare in terms of reliability, durability, fit/finish, ease of field-stripping/cleaning, trigger quality, and accuracy? Also, how would the felt recoil of a Mauser HSc .380 acp compare with a PPK or PPK/S in .380 acp?

Finally, does anyone make a IWB holster for the Mauser HSc?

Thanks.

- Larger than the PPK, so (obviously) larger than the PPK/S.
- Fit and finish are pretty good, comparable to a fine Luger. Grips, I've noticed, tend to not be in the best shape. If you've seen a Swiss K31 buttstock, the phenomenon is similar.
- Ease of stripping is hard to say as it's not a "common" design.
- Never fired one, so can't say as to reliability, accuracy, trigger quality, or recoil.
- Without going generic, there are no IWB holsters.
- Safety isn't a decocker as far as I can remember.

Important note: The only way to drop the slide is to insert a mag. Only gun that does it as a design feature.

Overall opinion: Neato, but rather uncommon for carry duty. Not as though it's not up to the task, but it'd be like driving a Model T to work every day. Mag changes are a little tougher, as it's a European heel-release type.

Hope this helps some. :)

As you'll see, I'm extremely biased. The HSc is one of the finest pistols ever conceived. The gun balances well in the hand, feeling lighter than its all-steel weight of 23 ozs. After the last shot fired, the slide is held open by the heavy-gauge mag follower. (To examine the magazine is a wonder to behold).
When the clip is removed, the ejector takes over holding the slide open. Insert clip (8rds) by shoving it home and it will spring forward & chamber a rd.
Unlike the PPK, the safety on the HSc does not drop the hammer when engaged, but leaves it fully cocked.
Personally, they don't build this type of quality anymore...A true engineering marvel, and they "ain't bad looking either"!
Firing this pistol is the best part: POA with either one or two hands...In fact, just shot mine (.32acp) the other day.
A friend has a twin in the .380 and firing it is a little more stout, but no bite.
BTW, fieldstripping is accomplished in 3 to 5 seconds with barrel removal the more obstinate.
As far as carry, I place mine in a number of Yaqui belt slides with no problems.
