I'd like to make a mini-collection of German police pistols. I have a few already but if anyone has a comprehensive list (or can point me to one)....dating back to the 20's it would be appreciated.

I already have what I think is a partial list: P1 (aka P38), P2 (Sig 210-4 way too pricey for me I'm thinking), P3 (Astra 600), P4 (Walther P1 with cut down barrel and improvements in mechanics), P5 (another Walther icon), P6 (Sig 225), P7 (H&K squeezee that I probably can't afford)...plus????

And Luger P08, Mauser P96 (another out of my price range), Mauser 1914/34, Walther PP and PPk, Mauser HSc, Makarov of some origin (??), and H&K USP.

I'm now looking for an HSc and then maybe an Astra 600.

Don't forget the Walther PP Super in 9x18mm. Used for a rather brief period in the mid '70s by some German police departments, it was soon replaced by the P5, P6, and P7. Might also want to consider the Sauer 38H and Star Model B as I think they were used by the German police during WWII.

The PP super is fun and easy shooting. It really seems like a meld of the PP and the later P5. Fiocchi makes ammo, it's not the same as the 9x18 eastern bloc round, do NOT interchange them.

Funny, I have 3 on the list.
1981 N.Westphalia marked P6, great gun!
1943 Astra A600, also a nice gun with some quirks.
1917 Luger Artillery with the 1920 Erfurt police rework, 4" rebarrel w/added side plate safety. A VERY nice gun.

I think the Sauer 38h and maybe the Unique Kreigsmodel could be added to the list. Probably also the Commission revolver.

Good luck in your quest!

Greetings and congratulations on your decision to sharpen the focus of your collecting efforts. You probably are already aware of it, but in case not, if you're going to collect German police weapons, you should get a copy of History Writ in Steel: German Police Markings 1900-1936, by Donald Maus. It might seem to be a little pricy, but it offers a great deal of information. This group of pistols - 1900-1936 were often marked by the police force which used them, so you can trace the history of a pistol to a degree. If you combine that information with some historical investigation into German history you can give historical significance or relevance to a pistol. That kind of information may result in these pistols appreciating in value the most rapidly in the years to come. For example, a typical 1914 Mauser will bring $400 to $600 in good condition, but if you could point to a 1914 Mauser that had been in Munich in 1923 during the Beer Hall Putsch, it might be worth at least a little bit more. Good luck on your hunt and keep us posted with photos.

I have a Mauser Model 1914 that was apparently accepted for government service. I don't know if it was military, or police, or postal, or what.
