I inheared a rusty bore stainless cva 58cal with 32 inch barrel, about 1:48 twist, fires no 11 cap.
It appears it was shot and cleaned but not properly and put away with a wet bore.
I was just going to go to town on it using a 20ga bore brush, flush with diesel fuel and oil with clp.
Unless there is a better way?
To shoot it I was going to buy a 500gr Minie ball mould and load with 100gr or less black powder probably switch to musket nipple as a have a bunch of musket caps.

Don't try the 20 gauge brush. The bristles will reverse and you won't get it back out. I would wrap a piece of Chore Boy copper scrubbing pad around a smaller brush and Kroil. Much over 65 grains of powder with a minie will blow the skirt.

I got a worn out 20ga brush that barely touches the bore on a 20ga. Used it with a drill in a rusty rifled 20ga too many times.

I'm lazy. Dismount the barrel from the stock. Fill the bore with Ed's Red (or its approximation: Automatic Transmission Fluid+acetone, about 50-50) and let it soak a few days. Figure out a way to keep it from leaking out of the nipple. Cover the nipple or remove it and stuff the flash channel with whatchagot (waxed paper, leather...) to keep the solvent in the bore. The nipple and flash channel probably need cleaning too.

After a few days, pour out the solvent. Swab out the bore. Repeat the soak swab cycles until the patches come out clean.

Let the solvent do its work.

I use a small bolt r set screw of the appropriate size, wrapped with a turn or two of teflon tape.

Is it actually stainless, or one of those nickel plated jobs? If it is indeed stainless, it should be more of a light surface rust, and won't require anything overly aggressive to remove it, or get the bore smoothed up again.

Also, is it a half-stock type rifle? It may be rifled for round ball, and shooting a min-yay might not be the best choice. ? Does it have shallow three groove rifling, as a musket or minyay ball rifle would, or more conventional rifling? I'd start with round ball, then try slugs later. Purchasing a minnie/"min-yay" mold might be $$$ down the drain.

Good luck! (got a picture of it?)
