curious if anyone has tried using lucas injector cleaner on their firearms to remove carbon. my bolt/carrier group is sitting in it right now. it seemed to do very well on the caked on carbon that forms on the bolt but wondered if anyone else tried this.??

Go to www.slip2000.com and check out their Carbon Killer, its safe to use on everything and doesn't have any safety issues including your health. Wear gloves if you plan on putting your hands into it and or cleaning it, some of those cleaners can do serious damage to you if long term contact on your skin.

Be safe, post pics, if it works well others will probably want to try it. I like using brake parts cleaner, it strips everything off your guns. Try it in an out of the way/covered area to make sure it won't ruin the finish, blueing... It will also melt plastic, some types of rubber so do a test before using it.

Injector cleaner is designed to dissolve lacquer deposits in the fuel system - not carbon. Use a product designed for breaking up carbon. The best thing I have found is to heat the parts with a hair dryer and mop them down with Dexron ATF and let them soak in that for 15 - 20 minutes. That stuff WILL dissolve carbon fouling and also makes one of the best lubes anyone has ever come up with.:scrutiny: Breakfree's Bore Solvent is also a very powerful carbon buster.

hmm, never thought about ATF. the bolt and carrier were kinda nasty as you know. it's lucas deep clean fuel system cleaner. it says on the bottle that it removes carbon.

used to use kroil overnight and it worked ok. used shooters choice and it worked ok too. tired of buying new chemicals but had some of the fuel system cleaner. it worked very well actually. just mopped the stuff on everything and let it sit about 20 min then wiped it off. didnt think about pictures. sorry. kinda hard to get a picture of black carbon on a black bolt/carrier. don't recall the price being all that horrible either. there is no smell. it melted the carbon off. i'll try some ATF next cause i wont have to buy it. really not a cheap person guys, just tired of buying more stuff to try when i already had some questionable stuff here. if you were my neighbors, id give you all some to try. sure didnt take long at all to get done what i needed.

***original question had lucas fuel injector cleaner but it is actually LUCAS DEEP CLEAN FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER. sorry bout that. its a thick goo like stuff and really clings to the bad stuff. a qtip was all i needed

I'd try it and not worry about it. I've had my hands in just about every conceivable auto chemical an at 71 am still here.

Course I have breathing problems from 3 pack a day smoking that I quit 16 years ago.

OH.. so automatic transmission fluid was designed to break up carbon??????? I never knew that. I thought it was designed to be a lubricant / hydraulic fluid. Sorry I could not resist.. you scold ish someone for using a product not for it's designed intent using logic of using another product NOT what it was designed for. Peace brother. You have to admit it's silly.

works great, just keep it on the steel, it melts

polymers in some situations.

Melted the grips on a old CZ70 years ago and since then, I pull the gun out of the stocks.

I have used non-chlorinated brake cleaner to dissolve various things - just keep it away from lacquer/oil finishes and some plastics - works great inside barrel though.
