I'm trying to inlay a small nut into a block of aluminum. It's going to be on the bottom so you won't see it. I'm going to run a bolt through the top.
I have all the small hand tools including a Dremel tool. I was going to outline the nut on the aluminum and cut the outline and then epoxy the nut in place.

I don't have alot of machine shop experience. I would appreciate any advice you could give me.

Thank You
Michael

Hi enfield. The aluminum block goes in to a frame and is alined with a pin so the hole in the aluminum and frame are the same size. I do not want to alter the frame. The bolt I will use is smaller then the existing hole. I want to tighten the block to the frame so there will be no movement.
Thanks

Have you considered using something like a heli-coil?
Just to do a bubba job I would just drill a tight hole and hammer the nut in.

Using a flat bottomed drill, drill a hole the depth of the nut and the diameter across the flats. Then take a small chisel , like a gravers chisel and cut out the corners.

Thanks mete

Thank you for the expert advice. I'm going to do exactly what you said.
It will look better than I thought it would.

Actually what I would do instead of a nut is use a piece of steel rod or tube. Tap it to the appropriate thread size. Then drill a hole in the aluminum block and press-fit the new "nut" and adhere with anerobic adhesive. That way you only have to drill a round hole to fit the nut.
