Install m44 mosin barrel bands

I have a Polish Mosin Nagant that I'm de-sporterizing. I can't figure how to get the new barrel bands over the bayonet mount. HELP!

carefully open the joint at the bottom of the ring and spread it over the barrel and rejoin.

Thats going to stretch the band, it wont properly fit.

I had a 91/30 that the bands were carefully pulled over the front sight, they never fully close now.

I've sporterized this gun because I cannot make the band hold tightly anymore.

I've heard they were originally installed with heat and kind of "shrink to fit" but dont know how to do that myself.

If I remember correctly you are supposed to drift off the front sight to remove or install barrel bands.
