Please tell me how to disassemble the Ithaca Knick enough to refinish the wood.

For the buttstock-is it enough to unscrew the two screws in the bottom tang behind the trigger guard? This is a simple job for a duffer with the correct screwdriver, right?

For the forearm-After taking it off the barrel I have no idea what to do, or if I should even try.

I'd never heard of the Knick, but google is my friend. It looks like a very expensive shotgun. I don't think I'd mess with refinishing unless I were an expert stockmaker/woodworker. And I wouldn't mess with the screws without proper fitted gunsmith screwdrivers!

As for the takedown. Remove the forend, open the action and the barrel should just come off in your hand.

Wood has been refinished at least once, and not so well, by a long ago former owner.

I want to separate wood from metal, gently strip the old finish, and refinish with many coats of thinned Tru-oil with light buffing with 0000 steel wool between coats. This will not cause any harm a professional stock refinisher can't fix.
