This is a question for those of you who own, or have shot integrally suppressed .22 long-guns. I'm trying to figure out what's currently out there in the 10/22 and 77/22 market, and what units / manufacturers folks have had positive experiences with.

At this point, I'm not interested in pistols, so please, let's keep this confined to long guns.

Some thoughts:

Are integral barrels significantly more quiet than screw-on cans?

Does the bolt noise of a 10/22 make that big of a difference?

Who is currently manufacturing either a complete gun, or barrel assembly?

Thanks in advance,

U

Yes, you can hear the 10/22 action cycle with the suppressor. There are some "fixes" found on rimfirecentral that address this issue. I have a Gem Tech Outback II (thread) that I used on my 10/22. I sold my 10/22 to a friend and bought a bolt action 22LR. There is a huge difference in sound from a semi versus a bolt action.

You should join silencetalk because they are the true experts when it comes to suppression. Most of the big companies offer integral for 22LRs, so google Gem Tech, SWR, AAC, AWS.

Try a 22 Magnum - you might like it

I just ran across a MARLIN 883 in 22magnum. $64.63 at the gun show. Looked like it was shot and put up, never cleaned until I cleaned it.

I put a little 4X32 scope on it, one nice little tack driver. I'm happy. :):)

Okay, Clarification:

I'm specifically interested in integrally suppressed barrel assemblies for the 10/22 and 77/22, and your opinion if you've used one.

Thanks,

U

I have used the ceiner in 77/22 and the firing pin and the target smack were just about all I heard... The 10/22's I shot or heard were a tad louder but that norell silenced auto was a trip- think electric typwriter and letter held down tap tap tap... I agree that silencertalk has great comparisons of the new models etc.... there are a number of great models out today.

and the .22 mag can indeed be silenced- just not the crack of the speeding bullet or to the degree of subsonic. Lots of guys do it and .223 and....

So...

While I'm waiting for my registration to go back through on silencer talk - I'm still trying to get an idea of what's out there - it seems like a lot of the big manufacturers aren't currently showing much for integrals on their sites.

Nobody from back when we used to have an NFA forum wants to chime in? (At least I think there used to be an NFA forum here a few years ago...)

Thanks for the leads,

U

gemtech and awc should have em still listed. Sound tech- most of them I believe do offer them. Muzzle cans are or seem to be more popular but the integrals do offer advantages of compactness without the additional stamp for SBR and assitional performance. There are new folks out there makin some quality stuff for sure.

I saw a ruger 10/22 with a suppressed barrel NIB at a gun store that handles class III firearms, but it's like $1300.00! That's a lot for a .22!

I shot a integral suppressed Ruger 10/22 and a Ruger 10/22 with an attached Gemtec outback. The integral 10/22 was significantly more quite than the one with a can. The only thing about an integral suppressor is that you are stuck to that one gun. I have a Outback II and have most of my .22's threaded to accept it. It's nice to be able to move back and forth between guns. If I get tired of shooting one, I move to another, if I get tired of that one I move to the next...etc.

The nice thing about a can is that I can use it on my AR15 with a .22 conversion unit. Just take off the flashhider and I am good to go.

Not worth the extra $$

Hello

I have fired many thousands of rounds through suppressed .22's,intergrally suppressed barrels arn't worth the extra money imho.
Here are some reasons.
1)they are dedicated to one rifle
2)they cost alot more and offer no advantage
3)they are harder to clean than muzzel cans
4)they add more weight to the rifle for no advantage

I used to be a partime pest shooter in New Zealand,my rimfire was a 77/22 with muzzel can and shortened barrel.I fired thousands of rounds through that scilencer before it began to rattle and loose effectivness.
As a foot note,.22 cans cost about $30 USD each back home and don't require any special licence to own or buy.How companies in the states justify their prices I'll never know.
