I just picked up a very nice stainless steel Interarms Walther PPK/S with a S57XXX serial number in .380 caliber. Can anyone tell about when this was made, where, any useful info. I just got the gun and two mags, no box, manual, etc. I wasn't in the hunt for one but at the price I couldn't pass. Thanks.

usp9,

Interarms began U.S. production of the blued version of the PPK/s in Caliber .380 ACP in 1979 under license from Carl Walther. These were manufactured at the Ranger Manufacturing Company facility in Gadsden, Alabama. These carry a 6 digit serial number with no letter. The Stainless version was introduced several years later, also in .380 ACP, with serial numbers preceded by an S. The stainless version was manufactured at the Ranger Manufacturing Company facility in Gadsden, Alabama also. By 1994 production of the stainless version had exceeded 113,000 pistols. The stainless model was the most popular selling version of the Interarms made PPK/s pistols.

The information above was taken from "The Walther Handgun Story: A Collector's and Shooter's Guide" Copyright 1999 by Gene Gangarosa, Jr. Published by Stoeger Publishing Company, Wayne New Jersey.

It appears yours was made somewhere in the mid to late 1980's.

In 1998 Interarms made a small run of Stainless PPK/s' in .32 ACP. These had serial numbers preceded with a W. I purchased one of these NIB in late 1998. Mine is W005xxx. The only mods I have made are a Wolff recoil spring, Wolff magazine springs, and Hogue Rosewood Grips. It is a keeper. :)
