I've done some research and I really like the 3rd Gen Smith and Wessons -especially the 6906. Right now there are a handful of them for sale over at gunsamerica.com by Robertson Trading Post. Seems like a lot of gun for only $419 with a couple of mags. Also, the preban magazines for the 5900/6900 series are very reasonably priced compared to other guns.

Does anyone have any experience buying from these guys? They are listed as a "Trusted Seller" and have an A+ at the BBB, but some personal experiences shared would be appreciated.

Also, what -if any are the problems with buying a gun online, and what are people's thoughts specifically about the S&W 6906?

Thanks for any and all replies.

If you like the ergos they are great guns. I have considered them in the past but never pulled the trigger. There is something about them that is not exactly right in my hand.

$400 is a fair price not a great one. IMHO the right number is $300 to $350.

Erik,I have never had any dealings with robertsons trading post but I did buy a almost new in box 5906 today for $425 shipped to my FFL over at the smith and wesson forum. There is also a 6906 in excellent condition listed for $550.:)

I bought a LNIB 6946 - DAO variant of the 6906 - for $275.00 at a LGS. Robertson's is generally higher priced than most on-line sellers from what I have seen...

I got a good deal on 6906 magazines from them though...no issues with the sale...

Thanks, guys for the feedback.

This will be a first purchase for me, so I really have to go to the local shops and ranges to see what feels good in my hand. I hope to find a number of pistols locally that I can shoot and see how they work for me before buying. Once I am confident, I can do some value shopping which will probably include going online like to Gunsamerica.com.

I have a short list but some may be difficult to come by to try in person. In no particular order they are:

S&W 6906
Bersa Thunder 9 UC Pro
Ruger SR9c
Glock 26
CZ P-01

And here's another one (as long as you're okay with a squared trigger guard instead of a rounded guard):

I also have a 6906 and really like it -- conceals the same as a Glock 19 (if not a touch better), the extra heft soaks up recoil just a bit better, and very accurate (not to mention the ergos are better for me than a G19). However, it does mainly stay in the safe as I also have a 3913 (same manual of arms) that I carry due to its slimmer profile (and it also feels just a touch better in my hand than a 6906).

Get one, you won't be sorry.

Can't comment on Robertson's...have never dealt with them.

I've shot a number of the 3rd gen smiths. Both 45 and 9. Never really been impressed. They were not accurate for me. And even the 9's seem to have a lot of recoil for such a hefty gun. This is all MY experience.

I think your own advice of trying different things out will lead you to the best decision. I have a feeling you will like the cz a lot.

Let us know what you end up with! And dont forget, you can always buy more in the future!
