I saw a S&W 6906 in a local shop Friday at what I consider a fair price...I do not have much experience with S&W Autos...It fits my hand well and I was already thinking of getting a compact 9mm...Are these good guns...Are there any known problems with them...it points well and the trigger seemed smooth...It comes with 2 12 round mags....So what is the low down on these little autos

I have the DAO version of these guns which were a police trade in and it is my primary carry gun. I use it for IDPA also because it is 100% reliable, good medium size, good round count but much easier to carry and conceal then a full size gun due to the shorter barrel and grip. Note: you can then pick up a Kel-tec P11 for even smaller gun that uses the same mags as the 69xx guns. So your primary and backup use the same mags.

Great gun and I would buy another one.

Here is a pic of mine!

My issued gun for several years was a 6904 which is an alloy, blue version of the 6906. It's also my current CCW. They are very durable and are a good service gun. We found given a random selection of 6904s compared to random selection of 5904s that the 6904s would be slightly more accurate. Not enough that most people would care or worry about but groups would run 1/2" to 1" tighter at 25 yds.
If you can buy it right and it hasn't been abused it will make you a very nice firearm.
This pic shows mine with a 5900 mag.

I have the 6906 and really enjoy it. It is what is referred to as the third series models of S&W. They have an excellent reputation for reliability and quality. Triggers are very smooth and have one of the shortest resets on any gun. When i purchased mine used, I sent it to S&W and requested they look it over and replace all the springs and advise me of any additional work
they deemed necessary. I also asked if they could spruce up the exterior as
it had some scratches and other blems. Nothing extra was neede and it came
back looking almost new. That was 5 years ago and it has been 100% reliable. Their customer service is great. :)

My wife had one of these for 10 years before we recently replaced it with a CZ. Absolutely never had a problem and the gun was very accurate.

I had a S&W 6906 up until just recently, and NEVER had any kind'a
problem with it! I bought it used (but not abused) with box and docs
and 3 magazines for $235 OTD. The only reason I don't have it now,
is the fact that I used it as partial trade on a NIB Les Baer Thunder
Ranch Special 1911 .45 ACP~!:uhoh:  :D

I did not know that the 59 mags would work in the 6906

Does any one make night sight for the 6906

59 mags work with the 69 series but they stick out the bottom of the grip a bit. You'll notice in the picture I posted above there is a filler between the bottom of the grip and the base of the mag there's a filler.
Mine has Trijicon night sights. Meps probably makes them too.

You want reliable...? You got it!

The 6906 was one I was originally looking at as it was a good fit. I ended up with a 3913 (pictured) as a backup gun--a little lightweight and small for my taste but will eat just about any ammo you put thru it... every time. I also have the PPC9 (pictured), a speciality competition semi-auto that is scary accurate, heavy, stocky and wonderful to shoot. So, I ended up NOT getting the 6906 after all, but you can get one super-cheaply on Mark Kitterman's 'summitgunbroker' guns sales Website. He's also very responsive to e-mail messages.

(both guns pictured are 9mm)

Where do you get those grip fillers?

Can an older one be fitted with a set of Novak sights(night sights perferable)

I got my grip fillers several years ago from Ray O'Herron, Danville, IL. It's a fairly large police supply shop. Don't know if they still carry them or who makes them.
Any gun could be altered for a set of Novaks, just depends how much money you want to spend. Depending on the configuration of your slide you might need some milling done.
