Interesting CHL Requal...can anyone help me reattach my front sight?

So as I loaded my magazine for the first firing activity on my CHL requal, I noticed that my front sight on my DW CBOB was off kilter. As I looked closer, I was able to pull the sight out of the dovetail!
So...being the total and complete badass that I am.....ok, so it was 3yd, 7 yd and 15yd....I was able to pass requal without using a front sight.

The big question is...How the heck can I get the pin and tool to reattach the front sight and make sure it's accurate??

A small drop of blue loctite before you slide it back on will hold it forever. Just eyeball it for center.

That would be great if I could figure out where to buy just the pin. I don't want to spend $125 on a new front sight.

A stake pin to stake the dovetail sight into the slide dovetail? You'd be surprised what a drop of loctite will do.

Try Dan Wesson Customer Service. Obviously they didn't do their part if the front site fell off so let them fix it on their dime. Part of that fix should also include a test fire to make sure the new front sight is centered and the gun shoots to point of aim.

Yep every 5yrs.

Could be there never was a pin in place. If you want to secure the sight, blue loctite would probably work. Red (271) Loctite would definitely work. Just be sure and thoroughly degrease all mating surfaces before using the Loctite, and don't slather it on.

I agree with the loctite recommendations. The green 'wicking' flavor worked for my front sight. I didn't have to remove the sight and the loctite flowed into the nooks and crannies.

We have to shoot for requal here in New Mexico. Every two years.

It's grueling... 15 yds! Honestly, I think they just want to make sure we can locate our hip, handle a gun without losing toes, and hit a man-sized target from three car lengths or less (most of the time).

Sad, really. Then again, I can honestly say that anyone who can't pass really shouldn't be allowed to carry a loaded gun... likely on the grounds of mental incompetence or legal blindness.

ETA: They really ought to do this for drivers licenses...

I went the "Loctite" route for a rear sight once but used a dab of slow setting epoxy glue. That was 40+ years ago and the sight has not moved. I believe a "fixed sight" should really be fixed.

I am just very thankful to not have as many hoops to jump thru.

Not only have I never had to take a course or range qualify, I don't have to bother with anything other than sending in re-up paperwork & fee every 5 years.

I tell ya, some of these people who are getting CHLs here I wouldn't trust with a fork, let alone a loaded firearm.

Even without a front sight, I didn't miss the 5 point ring (rings 7, 8, 9 and X in a standard B27 silhouette target) once....and that's not because I'm a stellar shoort.
