I been trying to get a Skighn Dhu knife to tuck into me sock when wearing me kilt. All I have seen production wise didn't tickle me fancy and I had no success commisioning one - till NOW !

3 3/4 Blade is really single edged with tradition LOOKING seration that actually work on this one. The knife is forged out of 5160, mirror brite (almost) with a handle of African Blackwood and a wooden sheath that fits very nicely and is covered in Black Ostrich. The sheath has an intersting profile along with the handle that allows it to lay flat on a table and goes up against the leg very nicely. The razor sharp blade has a convex grind and the fittings 5160 and polished to match. I really like this little knife! I will show a size comparison , for reference of course!

More pictures with an S&W 36 to reference size. Note the flat side goes towards skin in a sock and the blade has a wee bit of corrosion on that side.

I've often wondered, is the elastic in the sock top enough to hold the knife firmly in p0lace or must you also use a retaining strap?

Verra interesting...

Gordon--a wee photo of yoursel' in kilt, wi' skihn dhu properly deployed, would be a grrrrand addition to this thread!

Not plural!!

Precision Rifle 14--We arr'nt wearin' "kilts." We are wearin' "the kilt." One would wear more than one only in exceedingly cold weather.

The name "Gordon" is a classical Highland name, which might explain why he's wearin' such a bonny thing, and why he wants a skean dubh to complete his costume.

Me ain name is English, but I consider meself mostly a Scot, bein' entitled to wear the tartan of two different clans. Alas, I haven't a kilt in either tartan, to wear. So goes tradition.

What a shock to go to Celtic gathering and find hundreds of ruddy mugs armed with all sorts of offensive weapons getting liquored up with comely wenches and lively music ! Security (big Irish off duty cops)lets me thru the gate with a 19" double edged short sword and me brass knobbed Blackthorne! Well others had axes, cudgels, swords , pikes maces ect. you get the picture. Arse grabbing by the young bucks in the saloon, yet NO violence other than the staged battles! Fierce clan rivalries yet acting like gentlemen over the whiskey!
I wear kilts proudly sir!:neener:

Aye, laddie...

The Hieland Games are like that!

Robert Heinlein, or Al Capone, or whoEVER it was said it first, surely spoke aright: "An armed society is a polite society."

Sooo, gettin' back to y'r original intent a wee bit, whar indeed did ye locate that lovely little knife?

The Scottish stockings use a garter to keep them secure, and it's plenty strong enough to hold the little skean dubh. The long dirk hangs from the belt on the right side, and the basket-hilted broadsword is carried from a baldrick on the left.
