And interesting pole from http://fieldandstream.blogs.com/gunnut/2006/02/the_gun_nut_sur.html .

I notice this pole doesn't seem to have the Savage rifle fanatics that this BBS does. Now, I have a Savage 110, don't flame me, but I really prefer my Remingtons. Seems to be about the same number of 870 fanatics, though.:scrutiny: :D

I think the reason there are so many Remingtons is that there are so many Remingtons. It's what's common and available. I have an SP-10, 3 700's, and an 870. I don't own a Savage.

Rem 700's and 870's are the small block Chevy of the gun world.

It's a shame that Remington's quality has suffered so much recently. My favorite gun shop has just about quit handling them due to problems with quality.

One thing on the poll that suprises me. 7mm mag beats the .270 by a point.

Most recent Remington I own is a mid 90s production M7 that's my favorite rifle. I'd thought all the bad PR on Remington was over the 710 which everyone says is a POS. I've always been a big fan of the 700 series of rifles. I had a couple of 700s, but only own a M7 and an old M722 now. It's been my experience that the 700 is smoother, more refined fit and finish than any Savage, I guess why I prefer 'em. Both brands are plenty accurate and functional, just a matter of aesthetics with me and, hey, that will vary person to person. It's sad if Remingtons M700 QC is slipping. It's been a standard of the industry for years and years. I know that Savage has gotten a LOT better since I bought my M110 15 years ago just after the restructuring.

That doesn't surprise me at all. That's "big game" rifle. Deer, the .270 is at the top and 7 mag is at the bottom. 7 Mag is insanely popular out west for elk and such.

rumors of remington's qc slipping have been rampant on the internet for years and years now. if remington's qc has been slipping so much every year, the 700 would simply fall apart when being looked at.

700's are as good, or better now, than they ever have been. and yes, the 710 is junk.
