What's weird to me is that a canadian website has the vz.58 for saile for $595 but in the US they all are going for around $800. I know they need to have some US made parts to be compliant, but is it really $300 worth of parts?

jlbraun, I've been building AKs for 23+ years....... its not just about accuracy, if ya hang round AK Files ya'll end up with onea my old builds (retired from it now) showing up with the owner carryin on bout way under 3 MOA accuracy etc I can make an AK shoot lil groups... the VZ 58 is not only more accurate it also has all the features everyone who ever shot an AK is always asking for, the real bolt hold open on last shot, a safty ya can operate without taking your hand off the PG, short stroke gas system, the abilkty to load with strippers, much better ergonomics etc... nobody will argue that I'm the original AK fanatic....... literally as a matter of fact as I started buildin em when we hadda machine our own trunions and were cutting out recievers with die grinders and bending em on sheetmetal brakes as nobody had a commercial reciever yet...... but The VZ58 is about 60% a better overall mid range battle carbine than the AK no contest the Czechs looked at the AK listed what its short falls were and then they improved it

dstorm1911, I don't have even a fraction of your experience, but that pretty much sums up my vz-58 experience. It is the rifle that you THOUGHT an AKM would be when you had never fired an AKM yet...

At he close of trading on 05 Jun 2008, $ 800.00 U.S. = $ 815.84 Canadian, at an exchange rate of 1.0198.

Based on the above, I have no freakin' clue.
