Anyone who has read my reloading posts knows I shoot a lot of 44 mag from a Ruger Redhawk.

At my club's pistol range we have a shelter with a roof but no walls to shoot from. One day, I touched off the first shot from the gun and was cocking the hammer for the second shot, when something falling slowly from the roof of the shelter caught my eye. At that time I thought it was a leaf. I decocked the gun and looked down at the floor and saw a dark spot on the ground not moving. All of a sudden, it started to spin on the ground faster and faster and then took of like a shot. It was a bat. It had decided to spend the day in the roof, but the concussion from the first shot had stunned it and it fell. And they say no one has ever been hurt by a miss.

Anyone else have an amusing shooting story?

You mean like shooting 357 Magnums in qualification and having the guy next bay over have his toupee fall off? :what: There was the well stacked beautician who was shooting trap, her tube top rolled down. No bra.:neener:

Shooting my SRH .454 the first time at an indoor range.
The sound of the first shot got everyone's attention.
After the second shot, a little light started to flicker underneath the target. A few seconds latter, the little paper particles in the trap behind the target had a pretty good blaze going. It looked like a fireplace going full tilt. A range guy hit it with a hose right away, but it took a while for the smoke to clear.
I don't know if it was a spark or unburned powder covering the 25+ yards to the impact area, but it sure made an impression.

My dad and I were shooting down a hill into a ditch where we had set a target up. Maybe 10 yds at the most. I set the rest of the targets down in front of the one I put up and then decided to shoot all my rounds in fast succession from a 686. The gasses from the first round blew the targets in front and since I was shooting fast, I put two rounds through the entire stack of targets.:(

Fire at the range

Fun story.
A friend and I desided to try to shoot bowling pins at this range in the Detroit area. I was very new to this sport and to this location. When it came my turn, I was on the far right and my friend on the far left, I began to shoot with my Kahr K-40 not the best choice to use for pin shooting but it was the only gun I had at the time. After the second shot I thought some thing was a little odd. Way too much smoke. Well my gun start a fire infront of me in the indoor range. Well ,everyone else just kept shooting and I didn't know what to do. When the shooting stopped I yelled fire in after thought maybe I should have said a different word. All of the other shooters were looking at me strange as to say well we can't shoot our guns now. You are NOT the range officer and also there are no pins set up. Well except for my station. After a moment they all understood.

The fire was put out, no one hurt, and the shooting resumed.
To this day it is the first and last time I went there or pin shooting at all.

That is when you learn who has well and truly taken safety and correct muzzle control to heart. I mean both that shooter and all other (male) shooters.

Wudda put safety before sightseeing. Yup.
