Intro 1911 holsters for IDPA/IPSC?

I've recently gotten an 1911 (Springfield WW2 milspec) that I'm planning on using for Bullseye CMP leg matches, and would like to use it to dip my toe in local IDPA and IPSC competition as well. My carry gun is a little .380 (carried either in a pocket or in a PagerPal holster) and so unsuitable for any competition. I don't have a very IWB-friendly physique having a bit of a gut, but I wouldn't mind getting a couple pairs of jeans with enough extra waist to accomodate a 1911. Can anyone recommend introductory-level holsters (and mag pouches, etc) for me?

They are familiar with the new IDPA equipment rules, and if you email them I'm sure they can get you into a rig that will meet your needs (anything IDPA-legal will be IPSC-legal also). For IDPA you will need their new 'UHG' pouch, which covers 50% of the mag body.

My advice: I'd get either their belt or paddle holster and two single mag pouches for IDPA and then another two pouches on top of that for USPSA (IPSC).

Uncle Mike's Kydex. I've heard that Bill Wilson has outlawed them in IDPA (another dumb decision on his part? :banghead: ) but a considerable percentage of USPSA shooters use them. they are also adaptable for CCW.

I have used both Uncle Mike and Fobus kydex gear. I am extremly happy with both of them. Both brands can be found at your local sporting goods store for less then $30. I prefer the UM mag pouches if you can find them.

Be advised that the standard Uncle Mikes OWB kydex belt holster is not legal for IDPA due to the distance that the belt tunnel holds the holster body out from the belt. IDPA specifies that if there is an 'excessive amount' of light seen through the belt tunnel, the holster is verboten.

And the Uncle Mike's is named specifically as an example of this.

So if you want a 'do-it'all' holster for IDPA/USPSA, scratch that one off the list.

Since you asked for IDPA complient holster Comp-Tac is a good choice. I tried a Safariland 560 as a replacement for my Comp-Tac locking paddle. I prefer the Comp-Tac version of holster bliss. It may be that I will adjust to the Safariland. Time will .... Or I may just get the new version of the Comp-Tac (The old version of the locking paddle in not IDPA acceptable.)

Or you can get the Blade-Tech belt holster for $15. I think they also offer a holster along with a mag pouch or two for a very reasonable price.

Comp-tac may have a good holster, buy their belt holster is $58. Pretty pricey compared to the Blade-Tech injection molded holster.
Blackhawk sent me one of their holsters to try. It comes with a belt and paddle attachment. The cost is a very reasonable $29. Both the Blade-Tech and Blackhawk are IDPA legal.

The Uncle Mike's in padlde style is cheap and would work well everywhere....just don't get the belt holsters as they don't work for IDPA.
