Introducing... the ugliest darned AR there ever was

Sorry, I got that from another friend who was making fun of my tacticool stuff... I think it's from a Hong Kong airsoft forum or something. Those guys there get pretty serious about their airsoft because they can't have real guns.

Range report, day #2
Very, very busy today at the range, but I got in to a rifle bay pretty quickly, and took my time to make some good shots. The Bushnell is still shooting a little high, but considering its only a 25 yard range, that really doesn't bother me because it should be pretty accurate at 50 or so yards the way it is.
This is the setup used today.

I shot about 80 or so rounds... with all but the last 20 comming from the bench with bipod, from seated/standing.

Little flyer in there, I flinched when the guy beside me let loose a Mossin... lol

Best group of the bunch.

These are all 20 round sets on the paper, fired at 5 shot groups. Low light (I wear my oakleys to the range, and the light isn't stellar there anyway, but I did get to try out my low light setting on the Bushnell!) and it was chilly. I had the heater behind me, but I also refuse shoot in a t-shirt unless I absolutely have to be wearing heavier stuff. Only on the last few did the cold start to bother me.

Also cut loose the .40 S&W today for a few rounds.
These are both at 7 - 10 yards away.

So, back up a few lines. Is 4 - 5 MOA decent?

Actually that is not very good at all. That means you could be off by 4 or 5 inches at 100 yards and 8 or 10 inches at 200 yards. Considering you have a 24 inch barrel and probably a decent trigger, you should be making one ragged hole at 25 yards, and probably a 1 inch group at the most at 100 yards. If you are shooting Off-hand this might be acceptable, but if you are shooting from a bench or prone then it would not be.

I usually Measure MOA with 3 rounds, not 30. that first pic of your targets, there is 4 round above the rest. If this was done at 100 yards then its 1 MOA.

Just to let you know, the guy behind the counter at Dick's Sports told me that's not an AR based weapon.

I just let go and walked away.

The big spreads aren't from bench, they are from standing with no support.

Thats not bad from standing but with the right load and optics, that rifle should be shoting 1" - 1/2" groups at 100 yards. I didnt go back and read so im guessing the turn on it is 1-9? if so try a 50 to 53 grain HPBT. Ive also had good luck with a 1-9 twist using 50 grn blitzking. if its a 1-8 or 1-7 it will stabilize the heavier bullets like 70 to 80grn HPBT and reach out even farther then 200 yards with those results. Do you have a 16 to 24 X scope you could try on it?
what state are you in Deepskyy?

Sheesh! The uninformed nerve of some people! I still think the Rems are great-looking ARs. This is a pretty cool thread.

the guy at Dicks didnt think it was an AR because its a Rem? yea thats th guy i want at the helm of my firearm counter. you should have asked if he had ANY assualt rifles and see what he handed ya.

Yup, its 1-9. This latest run was Remington UMC 55 grain.
I can't wait to get it outside to a big range and see what I can do with it from the rest. I won't be doing a lot of unsupported shooting with this one. She's a heavy rifle with a 20 round mag in her. Standup duty will be with my MP15.
Edit: I have a very cheap 3 - 9 X 40 that I can throw on it. Right now those results are with the Bushnell 1 X 32 Trophy Tdot. I'm going to order a charging handle extention so I can put the Bushnell back on the black rifle and mount a scope on the Remington. That I am sure will help alot to since at 25 yards, the Tdot takes up about half of the target.
Oh, and I am in NC

This one is even uglier, and if you are a typical AR fanboy, you probably have one that looks just like it:

(Sorry, I just couldn't resist.:D)

bushnell, despite the hype, are pretty damn good scopes, its whats on my AR, its a Bushnell banner 9-24 X 40mm and it is outstanding, and cost less the $200 and never loses zero and very clear. I also have a Bushnell banner 9-18X50 thats jsut as good, I have it on my Savage Maco 17hmr. Im wanting a Bushnell Elite Mil-Dot for my 24" AR. They are arounf $500 but those thing are the cats a$$. Ide say they rival leupolds that cost $800 to $1000.

oh by the way I just got back from the range with my Ruger Mark II .22 pistol. I shot 5 targets at 25 yards I wanted you to compair you rifle targets from 25 yards to my pistol targets at 25 yeards. maybe just to give you an idea of what you rifle is supposed to be doing (which is blowing my pistol out of the water at 25 yards). with iron sights or a red dot unmagnified on your rifle at 25, even 50 yards you should be hitting inside that first circle unless you vision is not so great or you had to much coffee or redbull, ha I do that sometimes. Ide really like to see you stick a 12x or higher scope on it and shoot 75 to 100 yards. just to make sure you dont have a botched barrel like the E.R. Shaw im dealing with right now.

Ill post em when i get back home in a different thread and link you to them.

bausch and lomb bought bushnell out some time ago. might be why they are good scopes

ok so here is my shoot from today. If my Ruger mark II .22 can do this with me standing up without a rest then your Rem AR should blow my pistol away. the orange targets were 25 yards and have 20 shots each in them, the paper target was at 17 yards and each circle being 1" from MOA has 10 shots in them. I just wanted you to see these so you know your AR is capable of far more accuracy then what you posted earlier. most of them are more accurate then their shooters. be sure and post your shots after you stick a good enough scope on it to shoot on the 100 yard. to bad we cant all shoot at the same range. I learn ALOT from the old retired military guys and others who know WAy more then I do about alot of different aspects of shooting/relaoding and I also like to teach the noods at the range as much as I can as well in my own humble way. funny story, i was out there a few weeks ago and there was this guy there who had 3 AK47's and a AK74 and he starts schooling me on them and telling me he builds all his rifles and how to be accurate with them and how the AK is a much better battle gun then the AR and he can make an AK more accurate then a AR. I jsut listened and didnt want to argue the subject, I just shook my head and went back to my lane. then he starts shoting, and I sh1t you not, he fired 2 30 round clips at 1 target on the 100 yard range as fast as he could, open iron sights, and hit ithe paper ONE time. I was down a few benches from him watching through my scope. It was hard to not go down there and say, Nice shootin Tex. sorry I get off subject easy. damned oll ADD

*lol*
I'm right there with ya man. Damn you adult ADHD...
I'm sure my rifle is much more accurate than I will ever be, but I do want to get it outside, with a good optic and on a rest that doesn't wobble/have holes in it that the bipod kept slipping into. Thats annoying, because I have to reaquire my target every time it hit one of those damned holes. I'll take a picture of what I'm working with next time I go.

I like the pics.. and thats a sweet Ruger!
