Commercial Appeal had posted a link to the personal information on every Handgun Carry Permit holder in Tennessee. This open information includes your full name, address, and full date of birth.

In their tiny minds, they cannot fathom why anyone other than a criminal or a militia-type whacko would want to carry a gun. By publishing your personal data, they also hope to intimidate you, by applying pressure on you by relatives, co-workers, employers, and others who might not otherwise know that you have a carry permit. Of course, the real threat from this inexcusable behavior is identity theft. By making your full name, address, and date of birth available on-line, that data can be accessed by anyone in the world, via the internet. That is sufficient personal information to allow all sorts of criminal activity that will impact you directly.

I suggest you contact the management of the C/A directly and voice your extreme opposition to this electronic terrorism. To make this more effective, I have appended below the home address of the various C/A staff. After all, the public has a right to know, eh? Let's see how they like their personal data in the public domain. Please send a strongly worded letter to each of these clowns at their home address.

Funny, I ran each of these people through the database and not one was in there. I cannot believe, for a second, as pompous and "royal" as these people are that not one of them has a permit. So I am pretty confident about the "tweaked" part now. Besides Fisherville (which is equal) the chart does not match up with the city if you type it in.

Same thing here. The editor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer seemed genuinely surprised that people would retaliate against him by publishing HIS personal information.

Not only does it open information to criminals that your home is a good place to start if they want to rob a gun but it also provides information about women who may have moved and gotten a gun for protection from an abusive boyfriend or husband.

If you are a local, go through a copy of this fishwrap & birdcage liner and see if you recognize any of the advertisers. If so contact them and explain that they just lost some business - and why.

Newspapers and other media depend on advertising to pay the bills. These days with the economy being what it is, many businesses are cutting back, so the paper can't afford to lose any. In addition, businesses place advertising to sell a product or service, and they don't take kindly to finding out that what the paper is doing reflects on them in a negative way.

Oh, and if you contact anybody on the above posted list, be sure to mention that you will be talking to some of they're advertisers.

This is called hitting 'um where it hurts.

The personal information above about the CA was posted yesterday by someone in the comments on the letters to the editor (http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/feb/12/letters-to-the-editor-thursday/?feedback=1#comments ) That post was soon deleted from the website, as apparently, was the account of the person who posted it. That person has now posted a link to this thread.

I'm a little hesitant in posting this information. Not because I don't think it should be posted, but because it will probably feed the narcissistic personality of the subject. However, I believe that turnabout is fair play. A newspaper, the Memphis Commercial Appeal has created an online searchable database of Tenn CCW holders on it's website. While the information posted by the MCA is public record, posting this information in such a way IS NOT in the public interest. What the MCA has done is put families at risk. The decision to create the database rests ultimately with the editor of the newspaper, Chris Peck. With that in mind, I am posting the following information that was taken from free, publicly-available Internet sites.

BTW, this same situation occurred a couple of years ago in Virginia, when the Roanoke Times set up a similar database of CCW permit holders. Research by Second Amendment supporters, through free publicly-available online tools, discovered that the reporter responsible for creating the CCW database had previously been convicted of substance abuse and lewd behavior. Additionally, 2A supporters started a boycott of the paper's largest advertisers. The database was renmoved.

Not sure what you are asking Duke, but here is what I mean.

I posted the CA contract info list in the comments of that article. It still shows up for me, but if I go to a co-workers computer and look at the comments my post is gone. It's simply not there anymore.

Do you see a post from "Tim G." with that info? If not, then it's gone.

Yes, boys and girls, Handgun Permit holders rank with the Commercial Appeal newspaper with Felony Convictions and FBI Hate crimes as public need-to-know items. When the home invader and car burglar my sister helped put in prison are released, they can find out if she has a carry permit and plan their revenge accordingly. My god, people get carry permits because they are under death threat from real criminals. What the frelle is the Commercial Appeal thinking? Makes me want to rush out and buy a copy of John Lott's book on media bias against guns.

I'm glad my plane didn't crash in Tennessee.

For some reason, religious groups make a real nuisance of themselves chasing down survivors of aviation disasters. For that reason and for others (including legal, insurance and tax), aviation disaster survivors (and witnesses) sometimes prefer not to be identified so closely with certain events.

That crummy paper really deserves to be harassed out of existence.
