I have been looking through Iowa code most of the day and can not find out in writing how long a Sheriff has to physically issue the CCW permit after the application is turned in.

Our new permits are good for 5 years. BUT our county Sheriff might just take 4 1/2 years to actually issue it if he could. ( I turned mine in 30 days ago tomorrow)

Anyone from Iowa or know a little about the law in depth, know an answer for this by chance? In the meantime I will continue to look and if I find an answer I will post here so others will also know the answer.

As always THANK YOU :)

I believe it is 30 days.
Here is a FAQ
http://www.dps.state.ia.us/asd/SF2379_FAQ.pdf

What county are you in? I believe I read that some sheriffs are using the 30 grace period as a 30 day waiting period....bad, bad sheriff.

Contact the Iowas DPS if you are having issues.

Also, check out Iowa Firearms Coalition. You have to join to read much, but it is not much. and there is good stuff and people over there.

+1 though to Iowa finally getting this passed. I was an IA resident until 7 1/2 years ago and it really ticked me off that one couldn't get a permit. I have family still back there and I know several that have just got their paperwork done, but the county they live in - the sheriff will drag his feet too

SF2379 - 724.11.3
"The sheriff or commissioner of public safety shall
approve or deny an initial or renewal application subrnitted
under this section within thirty days of receipt of the
application."

I got mine in about 2 weeks. (Marion County) Keep in mind they couldn't start processing them until the 1st. So the 31st would be the first day our could really complain. It's sad that they make it harder than it needs to be.
