I've a couple of friends who are moving up the ranks of USPSA and have just started shooting IDPA. Neither of them carry concealed. I shoot both sports as well as 3 gun, and I carry every time I leave the house. Is their experience more common than mine amongst the ranks of pistol competition shooting? Inquiring minds want to know!

I carry maybe 5% of the time. When I starting teaching myself to shoot it was exclusively to get into competition. None of the pole answers really fit for me.

IDPA Master/USPSA Limited B

I carry but not the same guns I play with. Carry Glock 26/play with 34, carry STI VIP/play with SVI/STI full size. I have won local matches with commander and smaller pistols but at sanctioned matches I have never tried. When BUG matches come around is when I shoot what I carry, for the most part.

5 gun master IDPA

I shoot USPSA/IPSC (not IDPA) - I do have my CWP, and carry sometimes, but not an "everytime I leave the house" thing. I also never carry my competition gun (my carry gun is an LCP).

My infrequency of carry is due to a myriad of things - for one, I work in a government building so no work carry, and two - SC law forbids carry in anywhere that serves alcohol, so just about anywhere I'd go out to eat is a no-go for carry.

As a result, I carry when I can, but that's not all that often. It doesn't bother me THAT much. Realistically I think concealed carry is a very good idea when you can do it, but it's not as if the people that don't carry are running through a mine field dropping like flies every time they step out the door.

Whenever (99% of the time) I leave the house, I carry my Commander-style .45. I only compete in IDPA and I use the pistol I carry.

If you were to try to identify a demographic that carrys the most, other than police officers on duty, I bet that demographic would be competition pistol shooters. I would expect the percentage of competition pistol shooters that carry every chance they get would FAR exceed that of gun owners in general, or those with carry permits, or any other group you could think of that might have a relatively high percentage of carriers.

I shoot IDPA and I try very hard to always compete with what I carry. The only exception is that I really cannot compete with a 5 shot snubbie, and I do carry a five shot snubbie about 40% of the time.

I don't compete(I want to though but I don't know how to get started), but I carry everytime I leave the house. I cant carry at work, but I always have a gun in the truck. I try and only eat at places that don't serve alcohol.(Hard to do though)
I'm not paranoid, I'm just so use to carrying now.

I compete.
In TX, it is legal to carry concealed "in a personally owned vehicle".
I don't normally use my comp. guns as personal protection.

I mostly shoot IDPA but don't carry. At all.

Here in the People's Republik of New Jersey you have to prove you've already been killed before they'll even think about giving you a CCW permit.

I shoot USPSA and I don't carry, but I would if I lived elsewhere. I shoot USPSA to practice shooting under stress and I shoot the gun I would carry. I don't make modifications to my gun or gear that would not be useful for SD, so no speed holsters, no huge magwell, and I shoot overkill reloads at 195 power factor. I don't think there's anything wrong with those mods, but it's not why I choose to shoot USPSA.
