Having just returned early this morning, I can assure you that it was just enough of a good thing... :D

I finished 22nd out of around 80 Tac-Optics shooters, had some good stages and some bad ones, broke two guns that have been heretofore flawless, hung out with a great group of shooters, and generally had a terrific time. I highly recommend this match.

Thanks to all the MGM Ironman staff, sponsors, and especially the rest of the shooters on squad 5. Catch you in 2009!

OK..tell me about the stage with the slide..
what was the COF..

Chris,

I am planning on attending Ironman in 2009. I would really like to be able to ask some questions to someone who has shot there. I have been shooting IPSC/USPSA/IDPA for about 15 years (IDPA since it started). I have shot maybe 6 0r 7 3 gun matches now. I plan on shooting many more the rest of this year and next.

I would be taking a;

Very nice gun belt. 2 double pistol mag pouches, 2 AR mag pouches, vest with 4 Saiga mag pouches on it and 2 on belt on right side.

G34 (G17 backup) Dawson adj fiber optic sights on both, 12 17-rnd mags,

JP Arms 16" rifle, 1x3 scope. Might get 3x9 with small red dot, since Saiga puts me in unlimited. (Older Colt 16" backup), more mags then I can count,

Just got my Saiga 12, Burris sight, 6 10 round mags, no backup.

Not sure what to do about rifle. Have Remington 788 in 308 with 5 4-round mags and a 3x9 scope. I can shoot it fine out to 3-400 yards.

Have shot JP rifle fine out to about 300 yards, not sure if I need 18" or 20" barrel on it.

Do I have enought mags? for pistols? Saiga? Remington 788?

Is 16" barrel on JP rifle good enough?

Is 1x3 scope ok or should I get 3x9 and red dot since I am now unlimited?

Is Remington 788 good enough for rifle? Thinking about new Rock River 308 or 6.8 SPC with 20" barrel.

Do you need a 3 wheel cart to haul stuff around?

Enought mag pouches?

Any practice tips?

Thank you for taking the time to read this long question session. Any helpful answers would be great.

Okay, the tower stage - Start position is on top of the tower, rifle hot and zeroed in, pistol cold on a table below the tower, shotgun cold on a table downrange.

On signal, engage six autopoppers at 100 yards, and three Flash Targets at 200, 300, and 400 yards (all steel to be engaged twice.) Safe your rifle, and slide down the slide while maintaining control of the muzzle.

At the table under the slide, reload your rifle and re-engage all the steel targets from the table.

Ditch your rifle, fire up your long rifle and engage two long-range targets, a Flash Target at 550 and an 18" steel plate at 700. These are bonus targets, worth 10 or 15 seconds each for up to five hits.

Run over to the bottom of the ladder, retrieve your pistol and engage ten partial IPSC targets from the ladder platform, then again from a box downrange. Move to a box further downrange and engage a Tejas Star at 10 yards. Holster your pistol, grab your shotgun, and engage eight pigeon flippers, a double turner, and a plate rack with the shotgun.

Fun stage.
