I went to cabelas to buy bulk .40 S&W but all I saw was .223 or 9mm. Are they phasing out .40 S&W? I am just worried because its my favorite handgun caliber and I plan to have many firearms set for that caliber. Please dont turn this into a .40 s&w vs .45 acp debate.

I think it is more of a problem with your Cabela's or their supplier. Or perhaps someone just bought it all. ;) I see no indication that the cartridge itself is "on the way out."

Or maybe it was so popular they sold out who knows. I just hate having to buy it only 100 at a time and spend 27$ on it.

They have it, it is even on sale...

Edit: oh.. referring to a local store. Well.. the website has it still anyway :)

Just to put this is perspective, I went to a sportsmans warehouse a couple of weeks ago to get some cheap .22's for plinking and they had nothing at all. Somebody had bought out the entire stock of .22 lr and shorts except for shotshells. It was something like 10000 rounds at once.

Shipping on ammo makes it not fun to buy online. I'd much rather be able to find it at a store. Besides its on back order.

Most of the empty cases on the floor of my range are .40 S&W. It is not going away any time soon.
Cordially, Jack

Definitely a local issue, as my local Walmarts often run out of certain items in the Ammo section too. Gander Mtn is also out of certain items for a week at a time.

I guess all ammo except 9mm and 223 is going extinct.

Try another store... or ask about 75% of the LE agencies in the country!

That's why I reload. The .40S&W round isn't going anywhere. It was just your local store was out.

Wal-Mart has the cheapest .40 S&W albeit not much variety, but for target practice you can't beat their prices.

I'm not sure what you mean by bulk, are you reloading? If not look on the net for specials like the one I found at cheaper then dirt, Winchester Ranger 155gr JHP's for 13.90 per box of 50. It's wicked good ammo and at that price you should be able to do yourself up just fine, I got a 1,000 rounds. Also check out Ammunition to Go, just google it. If you hurry you still might get some of the .40 cal Ranger LE ammo from CTD........................

The .40 is here to stay.

In fact, I would not be surprised if the next U.S. military issued handgun was a .40 caliber.

.40 isn't going anywhere, and even if it did i know i am good i have countless amounts of brass probally 10kk worth and the loading components. :)

Must be the only store in the country that has any .223.

I thought they did away with it!
