Wondering if anyone is using the Hornady Powder funnel kit. I'm considering getting the set but would get reviews from fellow THR members. Thanks in advance.

No hands on experience.
Looks very nice though and I'm sure it will work as advertised.

I'm too cheap to spring for that, though. I still use a Lee plastic funnel and a dryer sheet to eliminate static.

I’ve been using one for a while and I love it. I like it better than a standard funnel because it’s caliber specific. You don’t really need one but it’s worth the money to a reloading junkie like me that’s got to have every new item that comes along.

What does it do better that a standard funnel doesn't already do?
Since I don’t have it, can’t say what it does, but the better setups fit the case necks better, powder flows through smoother and faster, and they balance better without wanting to tip over, aka weigh less up top, more at the bottom. That aluminum funnel, if not too thick, will help with that.

Hmmm. Some things can just be "over engineered". For a while I used a piece of paper rolled into a cone. Never spilled any powder and it could stand up in a case by itself. Not condemning a nice well made tool, just never thought of replacing my green plastic funnel...

Wow, didn't know about them. Thanks for the heads up.

Me too… of course, we could look at the area 419 set, and then the Hornady one looks cheap, and we (I) happily buy it. 😆🤣
Chiming in to follow along. Been eyeing them as well.

I have one Satern funnel. It works, but mine has a small lip where the brass and aluminum meet and sometimes a flake of powder (or a couple) get caught there. It doesn't stick or have static, but it's not my favorite. Mine is made for multiple calibers.

I also have two of the Precision Hardcore Gear funnels and I absolutely love them. Like Walkalong said, powder flows through smooth and fast, even stick powder. And never any static. Downside is they are a bit pricey.

If the Hornady funnel kit works as well, I would be very interested. Give us a review once you get the chance to use it.

What led me to the metal funnels was a static problem with my plastic funnel. No matter what I did, I constantly had to fight static.

So I bought my Satern for loading 45acp. Really wasn't impressed and didn't really like it. No static, but it was a bit large and didn't fit the way I wanted. It is the .30-.50 universal funnel. They also make one that fit's .22-.30 calibers.

Next I bought the Precision Hardcore Gear for 45 acp. This funnel is perfect for me. I followed this with another for .38/.357. Again, pricey but I would highly recommend. I also like that they are different colors, so it's easy to grab the correct one for what you're loading. At one time you could get a set at a discount but I didn't need a whole set. Not sure if it's still available but I wish I had bought it.

Last year I started reloading 480 Ruger, and the Satern funnel actually works very well for that IMO. I'm sure a caliber specific funnel would work great.

Guess I'll let y'all know, I just ordered the set and some other goodies. I've had the funnel set on my wish list for a couple months.

I'm sure you'll like them, and I'm looking forward to your review.

I have looked at them but I just use a white plastic one from a discount store to pour from measure to bottle and a Lee funnel to drop a measured charge into a case . They do the job and I am to cheap to spend that for a set of funnels.

A little dish soap left to dry on a plastic funnel works wonders with static.

I only bought the .30 cal Satern funnel, fits 30-30 and 300 BLK nicely.

Everything else gets an RCBS universal plastic funnel treated with Dawn.

Small cases like 204 and 223 are really nice to have a small good filling funnel. Anything bigger universal or no funnel at is fine for me.

I always dropped powder straight into cases from the powder measure using my home made "powder funnels/powder drop bushings", but when I started weighing charges on the FX-120i for PRS I needed a funnel that worked better than the old plastic RCBS funnel I had, and I ended up with more than I needed.

Besides the Area 419, Saturn, and Hardcore Gear funnels, I also had the Lyman powder funnel kit that is similar to the Hornady kit. It as pretty good, could have fit the necks better, but very serviceable. I gave it to my younger son. I like the Saturn funnels very much, except for the ridges which can catch kernels. It is light, doesn't tip/fall over, heavy brass adapter on the bottom which helps that, and fits necks great.

I'd love to check out the Hornady kit.

The Area 419 funnel is too thick/heavy, the inserts could fit a little bit better, but are pretty good, and it works just fine. The Hardcore Gear funnel could fit the necks a hair better, but it funnels powder very fast, doesn't tilt or want to fall over/off, and never holds any kernels. It's what I ended up using for 6 Dasher.

Looks like the 418 funnel wouldn't swirl at all. Might need a tamper to help pack it down...

It actually works well, but I don't think the design helps or hurts powder moving through. Just ornamental IMHO. I would make it smooth and polished, and much thinner.

For those that buy the Hornady "set" how many of the calibers are you gonna use?? I am sure it is nice and made well but is it really needed? Why not the look alike Lyman or FA version?

Best little powder funnel pan out there!
