Is black powder shooting more "pure"?

I like to think of it like this... (warning.. story imminent)..

I shoot CAS. I shoot both C&B and Frontier Cartridge. I usually load up with Goex, or now, Scheutzen (well.. grafs home brand... which is German-Alder Charcoal).
My revolvers are Remmie NMA copies (Pietta), are hand browned and get treated with Ballistol to clean them.
12G Coach gun, and 1873 copy.

I get a few geezers each match who tell me that I am not being competitive, and that I should shoot real guns.

I calmly point out to them that we are playing COWBOY Action Shooting.
I politely point out that 'smokeless' powders didnt catch on until circa 1900.
I make a gentle point that, for the period that we are 'enacting', cowboys would be using guns similar to the ones that i have, and shooting similar loads.
I then look down and point to the Ruger Vaquero's, etc, and ask them if they know any history books that show Cowboys with Roo-gers or pump action shotguns.

Pure?? I dont know if its a 'purer' form of shooting, but, I have shot smokeless, I have shot BP, and I have shot BP subs.... I for one prefer pure BP!!
Its dirty! Its smokey! and it makes the Range Officers take a few steps back when I let off my first shot of the day.
I also think that its closer to the 'cowboy way' than shooting smokeless in Roo-gers.

(although I DO like the Roo-ger Old Army!!!)

Not sure if it's 'pure' but I like it being called that. At least we can clean our barrels out with not much more than hot water, try doing that on modern firearms!
