Usually on google's homepage, the word "Google" is decorated for specific holidays and days of remembrance. Well I noticed on this important day, that "Google" isn't decorated or anything.

What's up with that?

Google gets decorated for fun holidays like halloween, easter, xmas, etc. You could just as easily argue that they are pro-vet because they aren't jumping on the commercial bandwagon.

Guess my point is, IMO its a pretty big stretch to think they're anti-vet just because of that. Why don't you send an email and ask / suggest that they do so for next year?

If you look through all the Google holiday doodles over the years (seen here) you'll see that they don't do the all of same holidays from year to year. They also have a tendency towards international, rather than U.S. specific, holidays.

The doodles are just a fun occassional diversion, not a political statement.

The had a very nice doodle for Veterans' Day last year:

Google dropped the ball!

seems that Yahoo has a little purple heart and dog-tags!:)

Can't say as it's an intentional slap by Google, as they usually have holiday recognition on their page, but they stepped in it in my book!:cuss:

I suggest we hit their customer service box... gotta research it!

Yeah plus the company is based in the USA.

Thain, that is a cool doodle. I'm not trying to point any fingers, it'd just be cool if they decorated it today.

Looking through the art they definitely aren't anti-military, you're right.

Is thehighroad.org the format to address this issue???...

I say NO!

You should contact the execs at Google.com.

I do not know what symbol or logo you could use for this major holiday. A US flag? The Iwo Jima statue in DC? What?

Slow the train down!

It's not like they posted a negative image for the day, they just went with the standard Google logo.

Thain hit the nail on the Head! Google is going for the Worldwide Market, so posting imagery for national holidays doesn't fit their mission plan.

I appreciate Yahoo's support, but don't get upset because Google didn't say anything about a national holiday, save your anger for when someone says something disparaging about our national holiday, our fallen soldiers, and our heritage.

Sheesh...if they don't consistently do it for the same holidays year to year and if they had a cool one last year, as a vet, I'm cool with that.

I think it sucks myself. Ashamed to stand up for American Veterans in front of the whole world.

Or maybe it was an oversight, nah.

Come on. They are probably the biggest company on the internet; I think they have the technology to cater to each of their (national or regional) markets. And they normally do so.

I bet they just...forgot. Honestly, and sadly, Memorial Day has become a day of sales and cookouts for the average person.

It's funny, when I'm bored, I'm one of the kids in my class who will always put funny things into the Pledge of Allegiance, and, of course teachers will yell at me for it. I know what they're mad about, but what they don't know is that I'm actually one of the few kids, I'm sure, who, when he/she says the Pledge correctly, will actually think back on why I'm saying the Pledge, and who has fought and died for me to say it. I've actually teared up more than once.
They don't notice that, and I don't expect them to. But my acting out has gotten me a reputation as someone who cares little for my country. And that's not true.
Happy Memorial Day.

Is every business now required to make special note of holidays?

Not doing so makes them anti-American or anti-vet?

Big, BIG leap here, folks.

Campbell's soup has a lot of red in their logo. Are they Commies?

Take a deep breath, OK?

Just an FYI the site google.com is dedicated to their U.S. market.

Users in other nations have a different google homepage (for example google.co.uk for the UK, google.ca for Canada etc.).

So, no, the reason they don't recognize Memorial Day has nothing to do with different markets.

Apparently, this is actually Google's response to this issue:

Thank you for your note. We understand your interest in seeing a Memorial Day Google logo. If we were to commemorate this holiday, we'd want to express reverence; however, as Google's special logos tend to be lighthearted in nature, this would be a particularly challenging design.
We wouldn't want to create a graphic that could be interpreted as disrespectful in any way.

We have a long list of holidays that we'd like to celebrate in the future. We have to balance this rotating calendar with the need to maintain the consistency of the Google homepage. We really appreciate your feedback regarding the Google logo, and please be assured that we're actively pursuing ways in which we can acknowledge Memorial Day and other such
occasions in the future.

Regards,
The Google Team
