Well, the weather here has gotten from really wet to really cold. I am really eager to go shoot my new M44, but the weather hasnt been very nice since I bought it. This weekend looks good, though very cold. So this leads to the question: Is it ever too cold for you go to shooting?

As for me, I'd say no. As long as it isnt wet, I'll be up for some shooting.

I have hunted in really cold weather but to just go shoot at targets , I would wait for at least upper 30's.

So to answer your ? YES

I live in Minnesota, yeah it has gotten too cold to go shooting. That being said I do ice fish and hunt in some pretty cold weather.

Yes! Back when I was a young whippersnapper, I would occasionally go sporting clays shooting when the daytime high was well below freezing. Now that I'm forty-something, I don't care to be out playing with guns on sub-freezing days. Give me a warm blanket and a big-screen TV!

Hell yeah, when it's so cold my .22 starts misfiring I need to get my silly self back inside. Course I imagine the SKS would make a nice handwarmer after a hundred rounds or so :neener:

Shooting just to be shooting? Sure, it can get "too cold"* fairly easily.

Testing a newly acquired gun or an anticipated mod to see how things go? Different story; I will endure beyond what is ordinarily "too cold"* (or "too hot"*, for that matter) if only for a limited time if necessary. I have shot in the falling snow before on account of this.

I don't think so. This last weekend some friends and I went up to Ely, MN. for a weekend at an isolated cabin. Walk in or ATV only. Got up there Friday night and made our way to the cabin. Temp. 24 below zero. Got up the next day and put in about one hour of shooting various handguns, shotguns, hunting rifles and an AR. Temp during range time -15F. Got up Sunday and did some more shooting. Thank God it had warmed up to -8F. I was thankful the sun was shining. ;)

It's never been cold enough to stop me from shooting. I simply dress for the occasion, and bring along some disposable hand warmers if need be.

Heck if it's much below 40, I can often have the local DNR range all to myself!

Wow... with those temps, you don't need no stinkin' asterisk.
That's just plain cold, period.

I do not shoot outdoors in the cold weather. I haven't yet encountered a year when spring did not follow winter. Spring weather may not arrive until April, but it always gets here.

Therefore I am happy to wait for spring to go shooting outdoors. Indoors, I shoot all winter.

When I lived in Maine I used to go shooting in all sorts of weather, I say if you have a new gun you want to shoot real bad, don't let mother nature stop you! Use the gun blasts to keep you warm the M44 definitely produces enough:D

We shoot our winter milsurp matches here in central PA as long as its safe to get to the range. We usually have at least one that we call the Battle of the Bulge Memorial Match.
2 years ago it was single digits and windy as can be. Last year it was cold, snowing and windy. The snow was drifting in front of the targets and we had to shovel out in front of the targets between stages.

Besides the matches, I don't shoot too much in the winter. I'm not really one for cold weather.

Now that I've gotten into my mid 50'sI think twice before I run into sub freezing temps just to shoot. That way I have time to grab the propane heater. :D

When I was younger and more eager, I've shot until my fingers lost feeling. Talk about the shot breaking as a surprise! The warm up time was no fun.

Most of the time I'd rather go in moderate temps.

Mark.

Lowest temp I ever shot was 5 degrees F. 20 rounds from my Hakim and I was ready to go home. The rangemaster's wife who lived at the facility drove down to see who was nutty enough to shoot on a day like that.

I pretty much just shoot targets for fun, and I don't have much fun when my skin freezes onto metal surfaces. I bought a Daisy 747 so that I can shoot in my basement during the winter.

So cold to not go shooting? Hmmm .... there's days its to cold to leave the house !!!! Nah, if its that cold, shoot a bit then go warm the hands up
and head back out! :D

Come on fella's, lets go warm up them shootin' irons!

Not really. A coupe of years ago not only did I go shooting, I dragged Entropy out with me and it was a snowstorm. Shooting Mosins in the snow is a ton of fun!

Well last week we went to the range and it was about 40 degrees outside. Thats pretty cold for us desert rats. But I guess its never got to cold to shoot around Phx. Now walking out to the 100 yard line in the middle of July is no fun.

Snug as a bug in a rug.

I live in Los Angeles. We don't really have weather concerns here because a lot of the shooting we do is car to car. You can always crank up the car heater and go for a nice leisurely drive on any of the Freeway shooting ranges. Why, there are even some gun enthusiasts who just sort of go house to house and and casually enjoy an evening or afternoon shoot as they drive on by. In Los Angeles we never really take the time to worry about the weather when so many shooting opportunities are available right from the comfort of our very own cars.

I've been shooting 3 times so far this week with the temperature quite often in the single digits. So if it was below zero, perhaps I might not venture out there. But for most normal winter temperature I wouldn't mind being out there/

Not to cold for me, though living in Minnesota 10 years ago the temp. was -35 one winter. No coyote to be seen so was going to take a 200 yard pot-shot. When I pulled the trigger there was no bang, just a very slow click. Should have wipped down the firing-pin before going out.
