I may be going to massachusetts to visit family and am wondering if I can leagaly take my handgun with me? My leagal residense is FLorida so I'd be aa out of state visitor if this matters at all? As a non resident do I still need a permit to pocess in mass. or will the fact I'am over 21 and a law abiding citizen suffice? :D

I have no intention of carrying my gun while in mass. (unless I decide to get a non-resident ccw, which I may not because its $100 all tolled for the year and I won't be there for more then a couple of weeks) I simply want to have my handgun while at my aunt's house and may want to go to the range with some friends while there. Any help on this would be great.

"Carrying without a permit
Date updated: Thursday, November 21, 2002

A non-resident with a license to carry a handgun issued by his home state ( Note 3) may carry a pistol or revolver in Massachusetts for the purpose of taking part in a competition or exhibition of handguns, or for hunting provided he has a valid hunting license issued by Massachusetts or the state of his destination. ( I think Carry in this sense means in a box in the trunk) ....(Note 3) Provided, that the home state has the same requirements as Massachusetts for obtaining a license to carry. (This is the catch 22 of their law. What are the requirements? No other states laws read exactly like theirs)"

This was taken from Packing.org

Keep in mind that Mass does not recognize other states permits for normal everyday just out and about carry.

What it really boils down to is where you are going. the sheriff where I am is totally pro carry and RKBA. But you may find it difficult in other areas where the police aren't of the same mind.

if you're only going for a few weeks, you can't apply to a PD there. What I would recommend you do is get the LTC. However, do not under any circumstances leave the handgun at the aunt's home. Because if you do that, she will be in violation of MA law. You cannot possess a handgun or ammunition on or about your person, or in your home, without a FID card or an LTC card.

Thanks everyone I think maybe I'll go ahead and get the non-res LTC at least I'll be completely leagal then and thats always a good thing. Also what class do I apply for A or B? I'd be bringing my Browning hi power 9mm I'am aware of mass's law on high caps so I'll just bring some of factory 10 round mags w/it. FWIWanother poster asked where I was gong in mass. I'am going to dorchester if this helps?

It's got to be a Class A for a Browning Highpower, no matter whether you bring 10 round or standard capacity magazines.

Btw, I think you meant "legal", not "leagal" and "possess" not "pocess".

It is illegal to take the constitution to the People's Republic of Massachusettes.
